Jujitsu moves foil teenager's attackers
Last Updated Tue, 31 Jan 2006 10:16:41 EST
CBC News

"Two would-be robbers tried to mess with the wrong girl in Nova Scotia.

The 15-year-old was walking down a main street in the core of Dartmouth, near Halifax, on Monday night when she was approached by two young men. One tried to pull away her knapsack.

However, the teenager, fully trained in the 2,500-year-old martial art of jujitsu, used a defensive technique to punch one of the men in the face, knocking him to the ground. When the second man came at her, she kicked him in the groin and punched him in the shoulder.

Both men ran away – without the knapsack.

The girl told police she may have dislocated the second attacker's shoulder or elbow.

Both suspects, about 17 or 18, were wearing puffy jackets with fur on the collars. "

3. Good for her! But what is a puffy jacket?
It makes me think of the Seinfeld puffy shirt, though it must be something much more prosaic, like a down coat.

8. that's cool...although I don't know if "punch in the face" and
"kick in the groin" are, strictly speaking, part of jujitsu. I learned those things from the 100,000 year old art of pure no-holds-barred ass-beating.

9. Especially to young girls - teaching a discipline is important. And
getting the kids used to fighting back. Because for teenage girls the lessons & parts of society are telling them to shut up and look pretty.

I think the discipline and thought process is what they are talking about. As well as techniques. And she is obviously aware of the injury that could be caused. A wholeistic understanding of defense I would say.

13. Good for you. That is brilliant! Yes - Nova Scotia is really very
"girls should be atheletes". Very much so.
