Let's all focus on that word for a few minutes. I am completely blown away by the few bitter responses to Straight Story's thread about the Freeper's son who died.

Right now DU is running a fundraiser for Americas Second Harvest. Since some of our own members have benefited from "A.S.H" No doubt some of the other people that benefit are Republicans- likely including some Freepers. Does that make you less inclined to give? If so, why? Do Freepers not deserve a hot meal?

This is just another example of how horribly divided our country has become under the "leadership" of George Bush. I strongly disagree with Freepers and the position(s) that they take. However, I refuse to become someone like Ann Coulter who says All Liberals Should Be Killed. You know who else thought certain sects should be destroyed? Hitler. Becoming like those people would be a horror. Very disturbing the malicious tone some of the after threads took.


Let's learn a lesson from history here and not go down that dark road.

2. Emotions are part of humanity

Sometimes our anger and hatred of a group can be so intense that it desensitizes us to their humanity. This is a major part of how people like Bush can lead us to war. All they need do is fan the flames of anger, fear and hatred and they can dehumanise a group and enable us to cast aside our normal humanity.

4. I agree. The thing is

is that reacting irrationally because of anger is what has gotten us into one terrible situation after another.
(And when I say us I mean the entire human race over the course of history)

I get totally raging pissed sometimes, to the point where I want to kick someones ass.
But I DON'T because I have (some) control over my anger.


There are PLENTY of things I have disagreed with on DU over the years.
The thing is, I won't jump into every argument and make it worse.
What's the point?

Everyone has a bad day.
Everyone is entitled to vent.

I felt that the venting AT THAT TIME was wrong- because of the thread it started out in.

BASIC humanity dictates that you don't make jokes on the grave of a child.

I've lived around Freepers all my life. Some of them are mean and some of them are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. We're all human, no matter what our political persuasion.

And to the family of the dead teenager, I send more love and prayers and :hug: s :)
