When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/news2/2006/12/lets_go_shoppin.html

President George W. Bush has an instant remedy for anything that ails this nation or his failed administration.

Go shopping.

In the days following the 9-11 terrorist attacks, Bush urged Americans to "go about their business as usual" and "go to the malls" to show they weren't afraid of terrorists.

On Wednesday, Bush stood once again before the American people and told them to stop worrying about his war debacle in Iraq and "go shopping."

Such statements, famed Boston newspaper columnist Mike Barnicle says, "borders on criminal."

Former Republican congressman and now TV host Chuck Scarborough said Wednesday night that Bush may be "delusional" because he obviously "has lost touch with reality."

Delusional? Lost touch with reality? Borders on criminal?

Not even close.

Bush is fucking nuts.

1. I don't recall the source, but I remember reading something a Native American . . .
medicine man said . . . I can't quote it exactly, but is was to the effect that he couldn't understand why the only thing the white man was interested in was trade . . . as if that was the only thing worth doing in life . . . it was a concept that he and his people simply couldn't comprehend . . .

that concept has become our national pasttime . . . virtually everything Americans do is directed toward buying more, buying better, buying bigger . . . instead of "trade" being a necessity that helps to enable the really important things in life -- family, friends, nature, community, living -- it's become an end unto itself . . . for many, maybe most, it IS living . . . and that's a really sad commentary on where we are as a society . . .
