So what ya doin to promote universal health care
Happy Holidays, DU!
I just posted this story about a local politician in my notebook - http://journals.democraticunderground.com/mdmc/145 -
As a leftie, I am undeterred by the "unelectable" meme that is assigned to anyone that promotes universal health care. I support it, popular or not.
I think that the idea is gaining popularity. I think America is ready.
Please check the link and see what Orange County Legislature Chris Eachus is doing to add his voice to the debate on this issue.
Locally, could you do something similar to support universal health care?

peace and low stress DU God Bless!

4. Single Payer, or Universal?
Really, people have got to be crystal clear about what they're talking about. People have different attitudes about different universal proposals. Kerry offered a universal health proposal, just not single payer. Nobody has said universal health care is an 'unelectable' proposal. Canadian style single payer is though.

5. It seems that the dems seem to think that it is not do-able
I doubt that "nobody" thinks that universal health care is unelectable. I remember Kucinich asking during the primary debates, "If these guys refuse to support universal health care, at least tell us why not." I can't remember how my man Kerry responded. I do remember that universal health care was not on the 2004 platform.
peace and low stress...

8. I don't understand the unelectable part
either. It needs to be explained and the old stuff that the cons keep saying proven wrong. The dems need to stand up to this and stop being afraid of being called a 'socialist'. I think people are ready and not in the mood for a patchwork plan that costs less (meaning just one arm and one leg not both!)

What I remember of Kerry's plan was that it covered children and would lower costs of health care plans by maybe $1000, I don't remember the exact amount but it was a drop in the bucket. I'm paying nearly $15k a year for me and my son. Pretty good plan but that is a ridiculous amount to be spending each year.

11. California's plan for passing this next year is impressive!
Are you involved with it?

One consolation about all the naysayers.... poll after poll shows a good majority of USians in favor of Universal Single Payer, even if they have to pay more in taxes.

So, when they actually learn what it *really* entails, and not the scare stories, I think there will be a great chance of getting the demands that our Congress needs to hear.

Thanks for your efforts on this!
