Bush's BIZARRE Non-Sequitors (Sex Slaves, Steroids, Human Animal Hybrids)
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 10:26 AM by Beetwasher
Every year in the SOTU Bush has mentioned some seemingly bizarre subject that seems to be added as an after thought and comes from seemingly out of the blue. Remember the Sex Slaves? Steroids in baseball? This year it's the human-animal hybrids.

I have a theory that these non-sequitors are Bush's own personal additions to the speech. Some subject or another catches his attention momentarily and he insists on adding into his speech. He's like a child and can't be denied and insists that he contribute to the speech and these bizarre throw away topics are his contributions. We never hear about them again, but they show up every year. Some things he probably doesn't even care about, like sex slaves, he just thinks it's a brilliant issue for him to pay attention to that will make him look good. It's his way of attempting to show off his "political genius". His handlers say "What a great idea sir! How politically canny of you! The public will love you for mentioning this issue!" and Chimpy beams like a four year old who just blew up his first frog.

Maybe Bush reads the tabloids too much?

1. You may be right.
But that does not mean that it will not be acted upon by this equally insane Congress.

14. Yeah
I guess it's possible, but if history is an indicator, this will go the way of his Mar's mission.

3. Noticed that , too. I think he does it to show he's "on top of it".
And this year, he saw Dr. Moreau on the TeeVee and thought it was a documentary.

4. Lol, good theory
I always figured they were coded messages to Bin Laden. Like, "if I talk about animal-human hybrids then it's take the 7 on Pittsburgh and I'll see you at the Pig Farm for the game!"

Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 10:18 AM by kenny blankenship
No wait...I got to do something about steroids in sex slaves first...woodchips in baseball. woodchips in BASEBALL, do those first...THEN we'll go to...where was it?

Human-Animal-Hybrids will eliminate our dependency on foreign oil! ...but then they'll turn the tables and rule over us won't they? Not if we trick them into going to Mars FIRST!

11. Animal hybrid organ slaves wrong!
The suggestion democrats should be behind birth animals soley to slaughter them and harvest their organs for human use si a slap in the face of every animal rights activist. Of course to do this they will pick ugly animals like pigs, if they used dogs or anny other "animals so cute and cudely we dont slaughter them. THere would be a outroar.

15. I think it's a brainwashing technique.
When you hear something very unusual and shocking it opens up a pathway to a deep part of your brain and everything else you hear is implanted more deeply.

Sorry, I don't have a link but I read about this somewhere.

16. They're hypnotists' tricks; con jobs
They leave people vaguely optimistic, if confused, and focus intensity away from the substantive crime at play. They're like the hand that shows you your last card while the other hand slips your watch off your wrist. I believe Cicero talked about this technique in De Oratore...

But I don't see the point of using that technique in the SOTU setting.

18. Are we not Men?
I realised that I had to repeat this idiotic formula; and then began the insanest ceremony. The voice in the dark began intoning a mad litany, line by line, and I and the rest to repeat it. As they did so, they swayed from side to side in the oddest way, and beat their hands upon their knees; and I followed their example. I could have imagined I was already dead and in another world. That dark hut, these grotesque dim figures, just flecked here and there by a glimmer of light, and all of them swaying in unison and chanting,

“Not to go on all-fours; that is the Law. Are we not Men? “Not to suck up Drink; that is the Law. Are we not Men? “Not to eat Fish or Flesh; that is the Law. Are we not Men? “Not to claw the Bark of Trees; that is the Law. Are we not Men? “Not to chase other Men; that is the Law. Are we not Men?”

Bet they were really cringing in the summer when Junior took his own material to NOLA. No PR person in their right mind would have ever written some of the tasteless comments that Junior made.

23. Another possibility:
some wingnut tried explaining transgenics and chimeras to the chimpmeister and was finally reduced to saying: "it's like this sir....kinda like those newfangled cars that use electricity and gas. Those heretics at the NIH are trying to mix animal electricity with human gas and that makes baby jesus cry."

"Oh," said skippy. "I don't like that....that makes my think-bone hurt!" And, thus, we have the birth of 'human-animal hybrids.'

In retrospect, it's surprising he didn't refer to them as 'Reeses people;' hey, you got your animal in my....

30. Consensus Is He Was Talking About Chimera's
Or the introduction of parts of the human genome into other species for medical reasons. For instance, using pigs w/ some human DNA so donor kidney's can be harvested.

But it was so poorly referenced in the speech it's totally unclear what the fuck he was really talking about.

34. hmmm...

Usually, when he's gotten onto wierd subjects of the kind, it's crap floating around inside the Christian Right and Christian Right think tanks (yeah, an oxymoron of sorts), who in turn pick up on arcane stuff that disturbs them from their expansionist psychological parasitism "missionary" activities in Asia and Africa.

all kinds of weird, sexual, bizarre stuff, like a tabloid newspaper. Those things were thrown in, probably, to appeal to the extreme right wing.

36. It's an appeal to his tabloid reading base
Those topics probably resonate well with a certain section of his base.

I don't think Bush personally has any influence on the media strategy of this administration.

Even though it sounds weird to most other voters, it's probably not bad enough to actually turn off Bush supporters.
What those who don't support Bush think about it is pretty much irrelevant.
