Why do I get the impression Pelosi is dreaming
Everytime I see her speak I really try to have confidence and it's not because she is a women it is because she seems a bit scattered in her thoughts and plans .

Not that I have alot of faith in any politician but this just seems to really trouble me and I can't quite put my finger on exactly why .

4. Compared to Bush?
You've got to be kidding?

Maybe it is because she's a woman, or is it all DEMS from your POV?

5. Quite a change from the practice talking points of Cons
But a refreshing change, nonetheless. No, I don't think of her as scattered. IMO, it's more that she doesn't have a page of focus group phrases and bumper sticker slogans. She actually says something that has meaning.

10. So in your esteemed opinion, women are scattered in their thoughts
and plans and you are trying to give her the benefit of the doubt in spite of her gender? I've reread your comment several times and I find it insulting. I personally know many women, myself included, who have held together families across generations, run households and their budgets, and held down jobs of intense responsibility requiring great accountability all at the same time. They have done so by being able to think and plan along multiple lines of responsiblity for many individuals and groups other than themselves. Women are very much used to doing this type of planning. It has been expected of them throughout history, and discounted as "women's work."

If a man is thinking while acting, he's being pensive or thoughtful? Ms. Pelosi is "dreaming?" I ask you to think about what you have written and reconsider.

18.  What does it take to get through , it's not about gender
I don't get your being insulted , is it the word dreaming ? I think all politicians are dreaming to a point men included . I consider all women as capable as men in any working section .

I have heard her speak many times before and all was fine by me , it was JUST the press conference that made me feel she was a bit off focus and that's all I intended to express .

I you desire to make it a womens issue then go right on ahead , this is your view but I don't welcome it . No one could come off as stupid as bush or rummy and this was not my point , I did not call Pelosi stupid or downgrade her in any way .

I worked under women who were far more intelligent than I .

Please don't make this into an issue of gender .

11. She is not a focused and incisive speaker.
But she could be a good Speaker, within the limits of establishment Democrats.

30. Yep... moreso Reid than Pelosi
I think Pelosi is a damn smart woman, as are most women in positions of power (in most cases, you have to work 100 times harder than men to get there). My only peeve with her was the "impeachment off the table" statement, but she could have something major in the works that we don't know about. I'm hoping its more or less brilliant strategy.

Anyhow, I'm going to give them both my full support until I see what they do.

13.  This is ONLY an observation people
Man , I only gave an honest opinion , I did not put her down or on some sort of shit list . To put it in simple terms , I don't trust politicians , I have been hearing the same issues bantered around for 50 years and nothing has changed , and the issue of a politicians sex has NOTHING ! to do with it .

I think she needed to tell the people her intentions , I have no problem with this at all . Perhaps she held back some during the press conference this week for a good reason . I don't really know .

17. blues90, she has put forth ideas and direction
All of us are critical of Congress, but, I have heard her state her intentions and they are definitely along democratic lines. She is not a radical, she is cautious but determined in her plans.

Explain the "dreaming" part please. Do you have a better choice for Leader?

this is the third "whats wrong with Nancy" diatribe I've poked thru today & like all of them, the same people reach the same conclusions. Isn't it time we all shut up for awhile and let her do her work.

15. She's nice
Don't confuse social politeness with weakness. Consider Strouther Martin as the warden in "Cool Hand Luke". He was nice. He had some henchmen to do the dirty work for those times when he had a problem in communication.

19. I think it's premature to make any conclusions about any of the Dems yet.
They haven't had a chance to do hardly anything, and they aren't officially up to speed in their capacity, either. It will take them a month or two to get things lined out and then we'll see what happens.

As much as we know of what's been going on, you can only imagine *SHUDDER* how much worse it really is. The GOP has had 6 years to screw the country, it will take longer than they've had to start cleaning up the mess.

But they will clean it up, just like always. The GOP screws everything up, and Dems fix it, put it back together, make it better than it was, and the cycle repeats itself. Someday we'll learn not to keep making the same mistakes.

20. She has that bubbly grandma personality. Doesn't mean she's not nails tough.
She doesn't have that starched down CEO demeanor most pols carry around with them. But I doubt she'd make it to the top of the "greasy poll" of politics if she didn't have a lot of substance to her. At some point a majority of House Democrats had to convene and decide she's the most leaderly of the pack. You have to respect that process.

She's actually put forth a plan, something the Republican Speaker never actually did. She's very clear about what she wants to do.

22. Man, Blues90, you sure are getting your ass kicked in this thread!
Pelosi has a fairly casual style--it's not stilted like Bush's or gruff like Cheney's. Her presentation is not about getting straight to the facts and moving on. I suspect we'll see her sharpen her sound bite discipline a bit in the next few months. What it takes to get elected from the 'burbs is not the same speaking style it takes to keep from getting chewed up from the media for a mispoken word. But mostly what you're seeing is stylistics, not substance.

23.  Maybe I am just impatient
After 6 years of bush horror and this GOP consisting of nothing but lying freaks along with the destruction of most of america . I just want it all to stop .

I am concerned about the Iraq occupation and the spread into the entire middle east , all the death hear in the gulf coast and in Iraq a well as Lebanon .
I am concerned about this economy and don't see a way to get jobs back or what a new set of jobs would even consist of . Bush with his jobs for the 21st century , what a joke .

I am concerned about alot of issues that are issues that need addressing long ago .

So with this said , I feel it is the people who need to get out in the streets and stop this . I don't see this happening either regretably .

I feel a need for a powerful speaker whether this is a female or male , it does not matter to me , and this is only a small part of what is needed to swing america back to something we can call america .

I was against this war from the beginning and against bush from the first time I saw his face .

Six years of continuous damage and now how can we fix this before many more people join the suffering before this ends ?

27. I'll tell you what I see in some of these replies
I see reactions not so very different than the freak repugs that have held us in doom for 6 years . Over reaction and reading in between the lines .

I only stated a simple observation , it is not carved in stone or designed to protest Pelosi in any way shape or form . It is not reactionary on my part or designed to insult .

I have not said Pelosi will not do a great job , this does remain to be seen and I have agreed on this aspect .

I can certainly take objective outlooks or others opinions . I am certainly not a threat to the success of Nancy Pelosi .

I am not of have never been in agreement with the repugs viewpoints or actions , in fact I oppose them with every bit of will I have .

31.  Because I am not in direct conflict with others
Look , everyone has their own opinion and they should have .

I expressed a bloody opinion and instead of some sort of discussion it becomes smart remarks with nothing really said that one can make any response to other than to become a jerk smart ass myself and I refuse to join in on that game .

This is the problem with alot of forums . I see many topics I don;t agree with , I am not about to climb aboard and lay out a remark for the sake of being a smart ass . I said one simple thing here and read through the remarks and see if there is one you can respond to .

Few have said a thing that means anything or asks specifically why I brought up this subject in the first place or even tried to support their own personal view or attempted to inform me why I should feel differently about my outlook .

It is very easy to type out a rediculous remark on a keypad without any thought put into it .

I have even admitted I may be impatient and that my views are not related to gender but still I have yet to see one persons point of view to counter what I have said .

I am not looking for agreement here , just different rational opinions , even opposition , does'nt matter .
