David Delp Arrested at Presidential State of the Union
What do you say when a freeper throws it in your face?

In the early days of the Senate's impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton in January 1999, a Pennsylvania man named Dave Delp was removed by the Capitol police from the Senate gallery for wearing a t-shirt that said, "Clinton doesn't inhale, he sucks."

A Pennsylvania school teacher was yanked out of a VIP Senate gallery and briefly detained last week during the impeachment trial for wearing a T-shirt with graphic language dissing President Clinton.

Dave Delp, 42, of Carlisle, Pa., and a friend had just settled into their seats when four Capitol security guards approached them. Delp said at the time that he was ordered to button his coat and follow the guards. Outside the chamber, he was told "several people felt threatened by your shirt."

Even after establishing that Delp was a guest of Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), the guards wouldn't let him back in and escorted him to a basement security area, where they questioned and photographed him.

After being given one of the photos as a souvenir, Delp said he was banned from the Capitol for the rest of the day. "They were polite and professional," Delp added, "but they really did scare me. I think I should have been given the chance to cover up."

Perhaps "beaten" was a poor choice of words. How about "physically abused"? Does that work for you? Maybe "handled roughly in a manner that caused bruising" works for you?

What Really Happened ...a message from Cindy Sheehan

<snip>
I was never told that I couldn't wear that shirt into the Congress. I was never asked to take it off or zip my jacket back up. If I had been asked to do any of those things...I would have, and written about the suppression of my freedom of speech later. I was immediately, and roughly (I have the bruises and muscle spasms to prove it) hauled off and arrested for "unlawful conduct."
</snip>

So, you know that most of the Cap police are dems? Prove it - if not why do YOU need to post lies?:eyes:

So, where did she say that she was struck? you can't be beaten without being hit.

I did some pro bono work for the Fraternal Order of Police (the US Capitol Police's union) a few years ago. Most of the officers are African-Americans, and Democrats. A little over 1/2 of them reside in DC, and most of the rest live in MD. There are a few (but not many) who live in VA.

When did she say that she was beaten? Assault is a stretch, as to prove it you have to prove intent. If an arrestee is uncooperative, it is standard procedure to use force to get them to comply.

15. There is a difference
between a shirt insulting the president and a shirt stating a fact and question.

If Cindy's shirt had even said "Bush's lies have killed 2,000+" Or that bush is an idiot or whatever opinion or insult to bush asking her to leave would be understandable.

But a shirt saying the number dead and asking how many more...is a fact about the war. It isn't a secret, it isn't an opinion.

I don't know if there is a legal difference, but there is an ethical difference.

I do understand their paranoia, that she'd do something to get attention during the speech and America would watch live as they dragged out a gold star mother. They took the less potentially easier way out.

On edit:

After doing some googling, I could find nothing from any valid news source about this David Delp. Found only one link when I googled 'david delp clinton' and that was to Freeperville. Even then the story was from 2003 and not supported. Should I have been surprised? Freeps are not a valid news source.

I still stand by the principle that if the 1st event did happen, the person should not have been forced to leave as long as they were acting with 'decorum'.

"Dear Freeper,

Dave Delp is a moron for not filing a Civil Lawsuit for the heinous violation of his Civil Rights. But I guess it is pretty hard to file lawsuit when the GOP "old-boy" network intervenes on his behalf and prevents him from being arrested and instead lowers the charges to a simple ban for 'the rest of the day'.

p.s. the photo 'souvenir' was technically a bribe. As in 'Here is a photo of you to make you happy so you don't sue us.'"

He was not handcuffed, "roughed up", charged with a crime and held in a jail cell for 4 hours. These are important distinctions between Delp's case versus Cindy's.

25. Clinton did the same thing.

58. More evidence of the bogosity of this fable...
I went to the Carlisle PA school district website and the only "Delp" working for them is a "Milisa" who slings hash in a middle school cafeteria. However, I did find one reference to a "Dave Delp" in Carlisle, in a story about a September, 2004 commemoration of 9/11:

http://www.cumberlink.com/articles/2004/09/12/news/news01.txt

He's not in the Carlisle listings in any online phone book, but there are various "David Delps" here and there in PA. No way to know if any of them might be the "Dave" from the Freeper story.

59. was he arrested, fingerprinted, and jailed?
if not, it ain't the same, now is it?

why is santorum's guest treated more respectfully than another's guest, even tho santorum's guest wore a rude t-shirt -- "sucks" which refers to cocksucking used to be considered outside the bounds of polite language, i think "dead" is still perfectly polite angl-saxon

so yeah there's a difference

if dude had been at least ticketed for the profanity and some illusion of fairness, twould be nice

67. Removing her violated the rules of the Capitol Police.
From another thread:

"Believing that the Capitol Police needed guidance in determining what behavior constitutes a demonstration,” the United States Capitol Police Board issued a regulation that interprets “demonstration activity” to include: parading, picketing, speechmaking, holding vigils, sit-ins, or other expressive conduct that conveys a message supporting or opposing a point of view or has the intent, effect or propensity to attract a crowd of onlookers, but does not include merely wearing Tee shirts, buttons or other similar articles of apparel that convey a message.”

Drudge is not a reliable source when it comes to anything Clinton related. Please feel free to repost if you find a reputable source.
