Circumcision Reduces Risk of AIDS, Study Finds
Circumcising African men may cut their risk of catching AIDS in half, the National Institutes of Health said today as it stopped two clinical trials in Africa, when preliminary results suggested that circumcision worked so well that it would be unethical not to offer it to uncircumcised men in the trials.

11. That's A Red Herring Or False Dichotomy...
Nobody is suggesting that circumcision eliminiates the risk of AIDS only that it reduces it...

13. And how will it reduce it?
By stopping the flow of seaman or the transmission of blood? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'll give it a shot...

If you are the passive partner in anal or vaginal sex and your partner is infected then whether he is or isn't circumcised is of no moment.

If you are the active partner in anal or vaginal sex and your partner is infected presumably in a circumcized penis there will be less area that the virus can find a harbor, i.e the excess skin...

Two independent studies done by credible researchers don't lie...

That being said....

Wear a bag...

Have sex with folks with whom you know their HIV and STD status...

20. In Scientific Terms

Uncircumcised men are thought to be more susceptible to AIDS because the underside of the foreskin is rich in Langerhans’ cells, which attach easily to the virus. The foreskin may also suffer small tears during intercourse, making it more susceptible to infection.

6. And Your Facts Are Just Plain Wrong...
You're referring to an an earlier, different study, ergo:

French and South African AIDS researchers have called an early halt to a study of adult male circumcision to reduce HIV infection after initial results reportedly showed that men who had the procedure dramatically lowered their risk of contracting the virus.

3. Some people are going to read this news the wrong way
and think that they can't get HIV if they are circumcised and don't need to practice safer sex.

21. I understand this. I am talking about the people that won't read the study
but will hear a few words about it and try to use it in the wrong way.

"Hey, Baby. Don't worry about it. I've been circumcised/had a vasectomy/I'll p*** o**."

7. I bet if you cut off the whole penis, it helps even more!
What pisses me off is that my sister-in-law was telling me health is the reason she had her son circumcised, and she obviously felt vindicated after reading this, but she also told me that she wouldn't give her daughter the HPV vaccine because the daughter shouldn't be sleeping around anyway.

I have a daughter of my own, and trust me I'm up on this.

But they are guided by their church. And their church says no. :banghead:

22. My ex-husband sent me an angry email ...
... and links to the articles in question. We did not have our son's circumcised, due to my personal belief that circumcision is a cultural and/or religious practice; ones that I do not believe in.

With access to soap and running water and an understanding of hygiene I do not regret my decision, my sons do not disagree with my decision either (one is still a child but the other is 24). I thought the link between malaria and AIDS was far more important.
