U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., finished third.

Edwards, who is considering a presidential bid and has traveled to the state extensively since the 2004 campaign when he was the Democrats’ vice presidential nominee, won the support of 36 percent of those polled. U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., finished second at 16 percent, and Obama had 13 percent.

Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack finished fourth at 9 percent. Vilsack has already announced his candidacy. The others are considering it.....more

1. lol, geez, they ought to. The dude has personally shaken every hand in the state.
and promised each Iowa resident 40 acres, a mule, and a fee waiver for the first 100k in legal expenses if their child is hurt by a doctor.

2. Too close for comfrot?
Edwards will be a solid candidate. Did you see him on Chris Matthews?

Another poll, national, I think, put Edwards behind Clinton and ahead of Obama.

The way the Obama people started trashing Edwards on these pages show that he can be a credible candidate.

Besides, if you want to defend Obama go after the Kuchinich people. This is where the hard left vote will be split.

3. I'd vote for Edwards for his frank talk on poverty in America.
Edited on Wed Dec-13-06 05:30 PM by Selatius
People talk about helping the "middle class," but nobody likes to talk about the forgotten poor. Kucinich has been the only other one out there I would vote for as well.

The New Deal was something the Democratic Party should never have forgotten.

5. If Vilsack finishes fourth in his home state he is through and if Hillary comes in third

(she and Obama are in a virtual tie) then that would hurt her badly. If Edwards did win Iowa and handily, he would have a good shot at going all the way. Considering that Kerry, our nominee in '04 and the actual winner of the caucus in '04, only attains 6% is not very good news for his possible candidacy.

7. No problem! -- give Obama another 90 days, he hasn't even begun yet!!
Edwards and Elizabeth are two incredible people no question, currently Obama is on a much wanted course for the little exposure he's gotten.

10. it's good
they polled "likely caucus goers." When I was in Iowa working on the Dean campaign, one of the huge mistakes the untested team did was not to ask "Do you attend or plan to attend the caucus." This is one of the reasons their polling was so off. On the morning of the caucus I made hundreds of calls to Dean supporters and was told time after time, not only were they not attending the caucus, they never did.
Lots were working evenings, lots couldn't drive at night, some were on business trips. I knew before we got to the caucus Dean had lost.
Interesting thing about the number of people who came and supported Edwards. He was just in town the night before. They hadn't planned on coming to the caucus but were mesmerized by him. His work with juries has taught him to connect with everyone. They all said they were sure "he was talking directly to me."
