26 years ago today - R.I.P., John Lennon

John Lennon 10/9/40 - 12/8/80
Rest in Peace

Thank you John for all you gave us.

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
and the world will be as one.

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

You have influenced many people to write political songs and to fight for peace. Well done! I hope the clouds you are riding on today take you to the best views from above.

4. Working Class Hero
As soon as your born they make you feel small,
By giving you no time instead of it all,
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school,
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool,
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.
When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years,
Then they expect you to pick a career,
When you can't really function you're so full of fear,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV,
And you think you're so clever and classless and free,
But you're still fucking peasents as far as I can see,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.
There's room at the top they are telling you still,
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill,
If you want to be like the folks on the hill,
A working class hero is something to be.
A working class hero is something to be.
If you want to be a hero well just follow me,
If you want to be a hero well just follow me.

RIP John

5. God is a concept
God is a concept
By which we measure
Our pain
I'll say it again
God is a concept
By which we measure
Our pain

I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I-Ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy

I don't believe in mantra
I don't believe in Gita
I don't believe in yoga
I don't believe in kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman
I don't believe in Beatles
I just believe in me
Yoko and me
And that's reality

The dream is over
What can I say?
The dream is over
Yesterday
I was the dreamweaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
And so dear friends
You just have to carry on
The dream is over

8. War is over - if you want it.
"So we're just saying "SELL PEACE" — anybody interested in peace just stick it in the window. It's simple but it lets somebody else know that you want peace too, because you feel alone if you're the only one thinking 'wouldn't it be nice if there was peace and nobody was getting killed.' So advertise yourself that you're for peace if you believe in it."

23. Because the powerful of this nation didn't like the
message that Lennon was preaching. This man was so loved and admired...he could NOT be allowed to live. Because those who are powerful in this world make all of their money from War....not Peace. That's why.

War is a Racket.

11. I heard ti from Howard Cosell
I was watching a football game when Cosell announced it.

"This, we have to say it, is just a football game, no matter who wins or loses. An unspeakable tragedy, confirmed to us by ABC News in New York City. John Lennon, outside of his apartment building on the West Side of New York City, the most famous perhaps of all of The Beatles, shot twice in the back, rushed to Roosevelt Hospital, dead on arrival."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lennon

I broke down crying. So did my grandmother. She liked his music almost as much as she liked the Blues Brothers from SNL.

I hadn't thought about it until now, but I think that's about the time I stopped watching pro football. Up until then, I watched all the time, especially when my Steelers were playing.

14. John's Obituary
John Lennon
John Lennon was shot to death outside his New York apartment December 8, 1980. The renowned songwriter, co-founder of the Beatles, and advocate for peace was 40 years old.

He was born in Liverpool, October 9, 1940, during the German bomb runs over England. His father left the family early on, and his mother, Julia Stanley Lennon, gave him up to his Aunt Mimi Smith. His years with her were a happy time, and he kept those childhood memories with him for the rest of his life. The hit "Strawberry Fields Forever" focuses on that time.

In school, his teachers called him a troublemaker But they also recognized early on that he was a child prodigy, gifted in many academic areas. He began drawing pictures and sketches that impressed his teachers, who suggested he be sent to Quarry Banks, a Liverpool art school. In his second year there, he was playing in a band at a local party. After the gig, he met Paul Mc Cartney. Upon hearing that Paul knew all the lyrics to his favorite Elvis songs, Lennon asked him to join his band. Together with George Harrison, Paul's friend, and Pete Best, they formed the band "The Quarrymen." John renamed the band many times, eventually settling on the "Silver Beatles," and later just the Beatles.

His mother was struck and killed by a bus when John was 18. John was totally devastated, and some say he never fully recovered from her death. During this time he took solace in classmate Cynthia Powell, and the two became romantically involved. Later, in 1962, he married Cynthia when she was pregnant with his child. Their son Julian was born April 8, 1963. For a long time, their marriage was kept a secret, to protect John's status as a teenage heartthrob.

Before the marriage, John and the Beatles left for the Hamburg, Germany, where they thought they had a better shot at popularity. Indeed, they were a success relatively quickly. The Beatles met Astrid Kilcher, who photographed and documented the band. She came up with the trend setting "moptop" hairstyle. The band returned to England after George Harrison was deported for being a minor. Back home, they played at a small club "The Cavern." There, a local record store owner, Brian Epstien, heard them and was immediately impressed. He fought hard for the boys, helping to land them a recording contract with EMI Records in the early 60's.

In 1962, the band released the single "Love Me Do." Their rise to stardom had begun. In the next seven years, they went on to record more hits than any other band in history. John and Paul were the songwriters. John's lyrics were emotional, while Paul brought in the catchy pop tunes.

Queen Elizabeth presented the band with the prestigious MBE (members of the British Empire) title. Later, John returned the award, citing Britain's involvement with the Vietnam War. Fans were disappointed that he also mentioned falling popularity with his first solo single "Cold Turkey."

In the late sixties, John began dating an older Japanese-American, Yoko Ono. Cynthia divorced him in 1968, and Yoko and John moved in together and started working on "Found Sound," an avant-guarde collection. The couple's experimental project was not popular, and the media speculated that Ono was controlling John and leading him away from the Beatles. The papers referred to her as the "Dragon Lady." In 1969, after the Beatles recorded the "Get Back" sessions, the couple eloped to Amsterdam. After marrying, they staged a famous "Bed-In" at the Amsterdam Hilton. They held press conferences from their honeymoon suite, and spoke out against the Vietnam War. Later, they recorded the single "Give Peace a Chance."

The Beatles broke up that same year, 1969. This added to John and Yoko's unpopularity. The couple moved to New York City in 1971. That year John recorded his most popular solo album, "Imagine."

Once in the city, his support of extremist groups like the Chicago Seven attracted undercover FBI and INS operations aimed at deporting him. The government tapped his phone and made several attempts to send him out of the country. But in the end the INS finally granted him legal residency.

In 1974 John and Yoko separated, and for two years afterward John took to heavy drug use in the wild Los Angeles party scene. But John had met Elton John, who helped the couple reconcile. A year later, on John's birthday, their son Sean was born, October 9, 1976. John concentrated on domestic life and on raising Sean. In early 1980, he and Yoko recorded their popular "Double Fantasy," with the hit "(Just Like) Starting Over." That year, while returning to his apartment, he was approached by a fan who hours earlier had requested his autograph; a mentally unstable loner shot Lennon five times.
Fans held a vigil December 14 at 2 p.m.

19. I remember hearing about it just like it was yesterday.
I was moving, and had been busy all day. I finally sat down on the floor in my new house, boxes all around, but no furniture moved yet. I was going to decide where to put everything, and I turned on a radio I found in one of the boxes.

Just as the radio came on, the DJ started talking about Lennon's death. I couldn't believe it.

December 1980 was such a long time ago, yet it seems like yesterday in some ways. That is one memory I will have forever. I will always remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news.

RIP, John.

Prayers for Peace

The Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred ... let me sow love
Where there is injury ... pardon
Where there is doubt ... faith
Where there is despair ... hope
Where there is darkness ... light
Where there is sadness ... joy
Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled ... as to console
To be understood ... as to understand,
To be loved ... as to love
For it is in giving ... that we receive,
It is in pardoning ... that we are pardoned,
It is in dying ... that we are born to eternal life

Baha'i Prayer for Peace

Be generous in prosperity,
and thankful in adversity.
Be fair in judgement,
and guarded in thy speech,
Be a lamp unto those who walk
in darkness, and a home
to the stranger.
Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light
unto the feet of the erring
Be a breath of life to the body of
humankind, a dew to the soil of
the human heart,
and a fruit upon the tree of humility.

Buddhist Prayer for Peace

May all beings everywhere plagued
with sufferings of body and mind
quickly be freed from their illnesses.
May those frightened cease to be afraid,
and may those bound be free.
May the powerless find power,
and may people think of befriending
one another.
May those who find themselves in trackless,
fearful wilderness---
the children, the age, the unprotected--
be guarded by beneficial celestials,
and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood

..........................

Hindu Prayer for Peace

Oh God, lead us from the
unreal to the Real.
Oh God, lead us from darkness to light.
Oh God, lead us from death to immortality.
Shanti, Shanti, Shanti unto all.
Oh Lord God almighty, may there be peace in
celestial regions.
May there be peace on Earth.
May the waters be appeasing.
May herbs be wholesome, and may trees and
plants bring peace to all. May all beneficient
beings bring peace to us.
May thy Vedic Law propagate peace all
through the world.
May all things be a source of peace to us.
And may thy peace itself, bestow peace on all
and may that peace come to me also.

..........................

Jainist Prayer for peace

Peace and Universal Love is the essence
of the Gospel preached by all
Enlightened Ones.
The Lord has preached that equanimity
is the dharma
Forgive do I creatures all,
and let all creatures forgive me.
Unto all have I amity, and unto none enmity.
Know that violence is the root cause of
all miseries in the world.
Violence, in fact, is the knot of bondage.
"Do not injure any living being."
This is the eternal, perrenial, and unalterable
way of spiritual life.
A weapon, howsoever powerful it may be,
can always be superseded by a superior one;
but no weapon can, however,

..........................

Muslim Prayer for Peace

In the name of Allah,
the beneficent, the merciful.
Praise be to the Lord of the
Universe who has created us and
made us into tribes and nations
That we may know each other, not that
we may despise each other.
If the enemy incline towards peace, do
thou also incline towards peace, and
trust God, for the Lord is the one that
heareth and knoweth all things.
And the servants of God,
Most gracious are those who walk on
the Earth in humility, and when we
address them, we say "PEACE."

..........................

Native American Prayer for Peace

Almighty God, the Great
Thumb we cannot evade to
tie any knot;
the Roaring Thunder that splits mighty trees:
the all-seeing Lord up on high who sees
even the footprints of an antelope on
a rock mass here on Earth.
You are the one who does
not hesitate to respond to our call.
You are the cornerstone of peace.

..........................

Another Native American Prayer for Peace

Oh Great Spirit of our
Ancestors, I raise
my pipe to you.
To your messengers the four winds, and
to Mother Earth who provides
for your children.
Give us the wisdom to teach our children
to love, to respect, and to be kind
to each other so that they may grow
with peace of mind
Let us learn to share all good things that
you provide for us on this Earth.

..........................

Shinto Prayer for Peace

Although the people living
across the ocean
surrounding us, I believe
are all our brothers and sisters,
why are there constant troubles in
this world?
Why do winds and waves rise in the
oceans surrounding us?
I only earnestly wish that the wind will
soon puff away all the clouds which are
hanging over the tops of mountains.

..........................

Zoroastrian Prayer for Peace

We pray to God to eradicate all the
misery in the world:
that understanding triumph
over ignorance,
that generosity triumph over indifference,
that trust triumph over contempt, and
that truth triumph over falsehood.

..........................

Sikh Prayer for Peace

God adjudges us according
to our deeds,
not the coat that we wear:
that Truth is above everything,
but higher still is truthful living.
Know that we attaineth God when we loveth,
and only victory
endures in consequences of which no
one is defeated.

..........................

Christian Prayer for Peace

Blessed are the PEACEMAKERS,
for they shall be known as
the Children of God.
But I say to you that hear, love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you
pray for those who abuse you.
To those that strike you on the cheek,
offer the other one also,
and from those who take away your cloak,
do not withhold your coat as well.
Give to everyone who begs from you,
and of those who take away your goods,
do not ask for them again.
And as you wish that others would do to you,
do so to them.

Prayer

May today there be peace within you.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love

that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing that you are a child of God.

Let his presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the

freedom to sing, dance, and to bask in the sun. God is there for each and

every one of you.

Old Adage

God is a circle whose circumference is everywhere and whose center is in every person.

Gandhi‚s grandson stayed 18 months with his grandfather, the day he was leaving his grandfather handed him a paper with these thoughts on it.Be the changes you want to see in the world.

SEVEN BLUNDERS THE WORLD MAKES THAT LEAD TO VIOLENCE

1. Wealth without work

2. Pleasure without conscience

3. Knowledge without character

4. Commerce without morality

5. Science without humanity

6. Worship without sacrifice

7. Politics without principals

His grandson added:

8. Rights without responsibility

Four other quoted by Gandhi -
1. “There is more then enough for everybody’s need but not enough for everybody’s greed.”
2. “Live simply that others may simply live.”
3. “Be the changes you want to see in the world”

4. On Gandhi’s gravestone:
“ Think of the poorest person you have ever seen and ask if your next act will be of any use to him.

Peace is not the absence of war but the presence of a higher evolution of human awareness with respect and trust and integrity toward all humankind.

Robert Kaufman added these thoughts:
“Competition without teamwork.
“Order without flexibility and balance.

I shall take my voice wherever there are those who want to hear the melody of freedom or the words that might inspire hope and courage in the face of despair and fear. My weapons are peaceful, for it is only by peace the peace can be attained. The song of freedom must prevail.

Paul Robeson

Bless us with Peace

O Source of peace, lead us to peace, a peace profound and true; lead us to a healing, to mastery of all that drives us to war within ourselves and with others. May our deeds inscribe us in the Book of life and blessing, righteousness and peace! A Source of peace, bless us with peace.

24. The saddest day returns again...
In My Life

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

In my life I love you more
