Guilford (Vermont) man accused of stalking Muslim family

BRATTLEBORO — A Guilford man has pleaded not guilty to stalking and threatening to kill a Muslim family that he believed were terrorists.

Kyle A. Thurber, 32, was arrested on Friday outside the Brattleboro business owned by the family, which lives in Dummerston. Police say he had a loaded rifle when he was taken into custody.

Thurber entered his plea in Vermont District Court on Monday to two felony counts of aggravated stalking with a deadly weapon. He was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation at the Vermont State Hospital.

Authorities say Thurber apparently had been living out of his car recently.

Police say Thurber told officers that he believed the family members were terrorists because they spoke Arabic to each other.
