My mother: On Life, Hugo Chavez, Stephen Colbert, and Everything
I just received this rant from my mother, the neo... well I can't call her a neo-conservative. She's sort of from her own world. To whit:

(And if you're wondering, no, I do not like my mother. But she is my mother. :P)

I do not know if the Latin American community hates Hugo Chavez or not. I do know such miserable corrupt dictators such as Sadam and such as the head of Iran are probably hated by a huge amount of their people. That makes no difference. If anyone disagrees with them such as the woman writer in Russia and the recent death of a journalist in Brittan, the so called leader (Putan) eliminates them. Sadam loved the acid chambers. He dripped acid through holes in the ceiling indiscriminately on top of the detractor and slowly burned him/her to death. Now that would make most dissenters closed mouth. I just know I'm not going to buy Citco gas or whatever it's under. I do hope his USA sales are much lower. His comments about our president before the UN were uncalled for, and just prove what a pompous little dictator he is, and that he believes George Bush is so hated that anyone can say anything about him. We, as citizens, no matter what our opinion on any political subject or leader have little real clout. This is my small revolution.

I believe you were referring to the Colbert Report which follows Jon Stewart when we talked the last time. If so, I videoed it, but couldn't get through the entire program (sickness went into my stomach). I, as a Christian, should be offender by his manger rendition, but since I believe Christianity can and has withstood a lot worse, and thus is the brunt of all the comedians jokes because they can get away with it, vs. the jokes about Islam, that they feel free to place the Sheppard rod straight forward as if it is a phallic symbol, and make various jokes about the black king, etc. Distasteful at best, but I will watch the rest of this man with the deformed ear and dyed black hair's show and let you know if I see anything worth watching. Love Mother

3. I understand when you said "own little world"
the first paragraph made no sense. And Chavez is an elected leader, so hardly a dictator. How old is your mother? Mine, at 88, has seen the light, going from voting Republican in the 60s to Democratic now. Maybe there's hope for yours.

9. IIRC, all of those she mentioned are elected...
Saddam, Putin, and Ahmadinejad, none of them are dictators.

13. Sure and Breshnev was elected too
Riiiight.

It is likely that Putin will be in office for the rest of his life. He may face periodic 'elections' but that's not a real democracy and he did just have one of his critics killed, in England no less, so I am sure there is not free speech in Russia.

8. Does she know that the lil' Chimperor looked into Putan's (sic) eyes
and saw his soul?

Really Christian of her to sneer at the guy who is deaf in that "deformed ear."

10. It's funny how people stopped buying gas at Citgo
after that little speech by Chavez, but they didn't want to stop buying oil that comes from Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries after 911. Why should the terrorists win and the Venezuelans lose? Ask mom that. Hell, I only pump at Citgo.

15. Your mother & mine would get along wonderfully.
My mother said we should just nuke Iraq because "those people don't want to live like us." :eyes: I asked her who was next on her hit list. Hispanics? Non-smokers? Liberals? Where do you stop? I'm sure if they ever start taking names she will happily turn me in for my own good.

I don't like my mother either. I only stay in touch with her out of respect for the wonderful, kind, generous woman who raised me, not the mean-spirited, bitter woman she's become.

16. I thought the bit where he adjusted the shepherd's crook ...
.... was a reference to vaudeville (when they'd use a cane to drag a bad act off the stage) -- and that Colbert was insinuating that would happen to guests whom he disagreed with. My father (who I bet is in your mom's age group) told me about vaudeville comics, quite a while ago.
