1. I know a lot of folks around here despise him, but.....
...I would recommend they check out the (VERY liberal) column he wrote for the San Francisco Chronicle until just a couple of years ago. He drives me crazy a lot of the time, but I do think that at the end of the day, he's on our side.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

7. Do you have a link to that column....
Would love to read it!

I'm a lot like Matthews, that I'm more drawn to the person rather than A Party. He definitely plays by the liberal playbook, and not the Rove For Idiots manual.

He tries to evoke passion, which many of our politicians lack.

12. Columns-plural. He was a regular columnist for the Chronicle.
A simple search on their site at sfgate.com should pull them up. You'd love his columns, I promise.

21. From his last column at the Chronicle, September 1, 2002
...

But this is my last column. The wisdom of middle age has taught me I can't have -- or do -- it all.

I remember Sen. Ed Muskie the night he won his last election back in 1976. He'd had some vodka, which I sensed he'd drunk fast -- like a Russian against the winter. He said:

"The only reason to be in politics is to be out there all alone and then be proven right."

That goes for good columnists, too.

So I'll say it: I hate this war that's coming in Iraq. I don't think we'll be proud of it. Oppose this war because it will create a millennium of hatred and the suicidal terrorism that comes with it. You talk about Bush trying to avenge his father. What about the tens of millions of Arab sons who will want to finish a fight we start next spring in Baghdad?

Well, that's it for now. You know where I stand.

5. Complications from diabetes
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 07:34 PM by rocknation
Did you see how poorly he looked the night of the election? It turns out that it wasn't due solely to the "blue tsunami" or having to share the spotlight with Keith Olbermann!

Get well soon, Tweety--and get into another line of work soon, too.

we'll just have to agree to disagree :hi:

Chris is not perfect, but he loves politics. I think his ABC Sunday show is better than Hardball.

Get well Chris.

17. I'm sure you meant NBC, or CNBC actually.
Lately my local station has been carrying it more often. It's like a more relaxed version, with more wimmens allowed.

22. Yes, Chris please get well and
rethink spending your life spewing propaganda on TV. Life is short. Enjoy your nice made fortune, and ESPECIALLY your family (whom will never be so underpriviledged as to have to enlist in the army as the only way to get an education and die in Iraq even though I know you were against the war but still spent the last few years pumping up your "king with the sunny nobility" whom you can't understand why people don't like) and retire.

24. Yes, good wishes to him.
Yo Chris, this Philly girl is sending good energy your way.

And for any medical people or diabetics on this thread, I'm very curious, (and it would just be speculation), but what would a diabetic around his age have to be hospitalized for?

26. Note: I AM NOT SPECULATING ON HIS CONDITION; just outlining
the possibilities.

Heart disease or kidney failure are the biggies. But even a simple sinus infection can bring a diabetic down very hard. I was hospitalized a few years ago for an entire week with an IV antibiotic drip up until the last day. Any infection can put a diabetic in the hospital.

There's also the possibility of sepsis/gangrene in a limb. there's even a possibility of an amputation, but again, I AM JUST OUTLINING THE POSSIBILITIES; I have no idea what his condition is.

I have been insulin-dependent most of my life, I don't know if Chris Matthews is juvenile or adult onset. Either way, as a fellow diabetic, I wish him a full, speedy recovery as that offers me hope, too.
