Show set to feature resident, three businesses for ‘green Christmas’

Christmas is coming early for operators of three businesses in Lawrence, as a producer and contract camera crew are set to shine at least a part of a national media spotlight on the city that an environmental advocate now calls home.

Simran Sethi, who heads up new media operations for TreeHugger.com, is lined up to be featured in a “green Christmas” segment for “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

The Lawrence visits will be condensed into a one- or two-minute segment for the “Oprah” show, tentatively set to be shown Tuesday. The featured guest will be former Vice President Al Gore, highlighted in the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” and the show’s lineup includes features related to environmental issues.

I posted this because I think it is very important that Al Gore speak on Oprah Winfrey's show, since this show reaches at least 10 million viewers, many of them mothers with children. The climate crisis is then something very important to be discussed and I hope from this appearance that Mr. Gore can reach more people to take action than the NSTA could ;-). This issue must be seen as more than just a trend or a political campaign poster. I also assume based on the date of this article that Tuesday means December 5. I'm sure Oprah Winfrey's site will be updated to include this by Monday.

Disclaimer: I've not watched TV for many years, though I did watch Oprah occasionally back when I did. Oprah reaches MILLIONS of people who have *not* thought about Global Warming - and so an appearance by Big Al will be the exact opposite of "preaching to the choir" --

Thanks for the posting. I'll set my TV timer to tape this.

Oprah has had several programs that have talked about global warming and the climate crisis.

I think one of them was with Laurie David, a producer of An Inconvenient Truth.

Remember, Oprah made Obama promise that he would announce his candidacy for president on her tv show.

How about Obama/Oprah in 2008.............only kidding my votes is for Al Gore in 2008.
