Help...I know DUer's can help me find this charitable organization.
I am looking for the organization that provides animals, plants, etc. to people in poverty. I received a catalog from them a month or two ago and now I can't find it. I wanted to give this for a Christmas gift. Does anyone remember the name of the organization that does this?

Thanks so much!

I guess I am cynical
But why would someone struggling to care for themselves need a pet to care for as well? Katrina kind of soured me on this.

5. Not for pets, for food and/or for work
Horses and cows to pull plows; cows and goats for milk; bunnies for breeding for food; bees for honey; and so on.

And also cows and goats for and others for breeding for food, but only AFTER the gift animals have created a sustainable herd.

7. It's more for survival such as goats or cows for milk. Chickens for
eggs. That type of thing. Some are to be raised for meat consumption so it might be difficult for some to give that gift, but they have other things as well.

It is Heifer International and I think it would make a good gift this holiday season.

6. You're welcome. Hey, I'm so cynical that when I first received
their catalog, I had to check to see if they were "for real." That is why I remember their name.

Great idea for Christmas gifts!

11. they're for real all right- a great org.- If your ever in New England, take
a trip to "Overlook Farm"- it's down in north/west Mass.. (Rutland?)... can't remember. We've been there a few times- Excellent place to learn- and visit- our kids earn and give to/through them every year. A Llamma last year from bake sales at school-

One of the best parts about HPI is that the person who recieves an animal gives the first offspring to another person in need- it is a great group. Passing on the gift-

peace,
blu

8. Heifer is a great organization -
Headquarters are in Little Rock next door to Clinton Presidential Center. If you want to get involved, they sponsor trips to the countries where they work. You get to see how it all works up close.

Their building uses "green" construction - cutting edge. They are applying for certification (can't remember which organization) that rates the "green-ness" of the building.

10. My best friend's mother died about 4 yrs ago, and before she
died I gave her a "gift" of a flock of chicks through Heifer Int. She was so pleased and tickled about it that after she died, every year I give something different, like bunnies, bees, goats, etc in her memory. Her family always gets teary-eyed when they get the card. I also gave my mother a share of a water buffalo for Mother's Day, but she wasn't exactly pleased with it at first, but later decided it was a good gift. I love and believe in Heifer Int fully.
