4. Well, of course!
You have to understand it's entirely improper to suggest Americans would ever use land mines (even though we do). And it's even worse to show things happening to Americans that we do to other countries.

:sarcasm:

23. The issue actually isn't about the American military using landmines.
Although the US military does have a lot of mines "just in case", we really don't use them much anymore. They tend to hinder troop movements and are usually seen as inefficient weapons. We do still use more focused anti-personell weapons like Claymores, but they're not the menace that landmines are (Claymores are deployed in far fewer numbers, in very specific situations). The US also ceased manufacturing landmines almost a decade ago.

The real problem with the US and landmines is that our government refuses to get behind the anti-land mine treaty because we want to reserve that "just in case" right. Russia is a major supplier of the worlds land mines, and Russia has said that they refuse to sign the treaty until the US does. India is also a major producer of mines, and US diplomatic pressure is seen as a likely solution to their refusal to sign the treaty too. Basically, the argument about the US is that we refuse to get diplomatically involved with the issue. We're not creating the problem, but we're refusing to help make it go away.

BTW, even if the US signed and got those other countries to give in, we still have to deal with the fact that North Korea, Vietnam, Pakistan, Iran, and Myanmar all produce and sell landmines on the open market too. Getting THOSE nations to cease their sales will be a bit trickier (if the US, Russia, and India signed it, many of those nations might be brought into line using political pressure though).

17. That's a hell of an ad, but
I think it's too long. If they would cut out the part with the people arriving to the game, and just start where the kids scored the goal, I think it would increase the appeal to broadcasters.

18. No.. that's the HOOK. I thought it was a car ad at first
then I saw the soccer players....girls.. so I wondered what the ad would be about..The explosion just totally catches you offguard.. It's a perfect ad..

It starts out like any car ad, then it could be a financial services ad and boom..

24. What makes the ad so brilliant:
The victim is a white female, and her mother is a "soccer mom."

Most of the key demographics in one shot. Brilliant.

31. That's what struck me about it as well
It's all so ordinary..like we expect things to be.. The US had never lived with the total uncertainty of live one moment, and dead the next (even after the WTC)..We think it cannot happen to our children.. OUR children are innocent :sarcasm:

yet we don;t feel the same about other people's children:cry:

28. Hypocrisy. It is infuriating that stations will not run this
It is infuriating that stations will not run ads even if they contain no nudity, or profanity. It is as if some notions are considered profane.

Well, news for all the Bible beaters. Jesus constantly denounced 'hypocrisy'. Hypocrisy is using one standard for others, and a different standard for yourself. And that is EXACTLY what this ad points out. And that is why it is so offensive and not deemed appropriate for airing on most TV stations.
