AP: Ten Commandments Appear At County Courthouse
They are at it again. More fundie lunacy, this time in Florida.

A six-ton block of granite bearing the Ten Commandments had been installed atop the courthouse steps. Inscribed at the base was the admonition to "Love God and keep his commandments."

The concept of a Ten Commandments monument was endorsed by county commissioners.

5. It's in Fundy Florida
What a surprise.

I agree with Carl Hiassen that things are so crazy there that everytime he makes up some impossible scenario, some Floridian tops it for real.

8. Name 'em
I challenge you to name all ten commandments - no peeking, no cheating, no semantic variations. More sigificantly, I would challenge the average fundie to do the same, and I'll bet he wouldn't be able to do it. This crap is a mindless distraction from reality. But, then again, this is Florida.

10. Just don't ask the repuke from Georgia
who co-sponsored a bill to require the display of the Ten Commandments in the House of Reps and the Senate.

Stephen Colbert: What are the Ten Commandments?
Lynn Westmoreland: What are all of them?

SC: Yes.

LW: You want me to name them all?

SC: Yes.

LW: Uhhh.

LW: Ummmm. Don't murder. Don't lie. Don't steal. Ummmmm.

LW: I can't name them all.

2 out of 10 is probably an average score for these idiots.

15. That's the reason they have to have the Ten Commandments everywhere...
is because they can't remember what they are.

16. #1 I am the Lord Thy God. Arrogant prick, aint I?
#2 Thou shalt make no graven images. Paintings, statues, crucifixes, stained glass, tattoos and other adornments arent to be considered "Graven". I am the lord, but i have yet to grasp your languages completely.

#3 Thou shalt not take my name in vain. Unless a REEEALLY pretty girl walks by. At that point a forceful "God Damn, look at those..." is appropriate

#4 Remember the sabbath and keep it for Wal-Mart shopping. Graven images on aisle 12.

#5 Honor thy Father and thy Mother. Even if they are drunken, violent, illiterate dipshits who think i live in the toilet tank.

#6 Thou shalt not kill anyone unless you reeeeally think you should. Oh...and brown people are ok.

#7 Thou shalt not commit adultery with the exception of occasions like the babe mentioned in # 3 above.

#8 Thou shalt not steal. Unless you are a Republican or Imperialist government, in which case, knock yourself out.

#9 Thou shalt not bear false witness unless it is to cover your own ass. And i am not talking Donkey, here.

#10 Thou shalt not covet. While your at it, pigs will fly soon with rocket engines from their pink patooties. Oh hell, covet all you want. I am, after all, a capitalist.

17. I accept your challenge
No Gods before Me
No graven images
Honor mom and dad
Keep the Sabbath holy
Don't kill
Don't bear false witness
Don't take My name in vain
Knock off the coveting
No adultery
No stealing.

No bad for a liberal who hasn't been to church for a long time. I used to know the differences between these (the protestant ones) and the Jewish and Catholic versions.

9. "Defendant asks for change of venue. They have no expectation of a fair and impartial hearing...
by a jury of their peers in a courthouse where ancient biblical text is held out as the basis for the laws administered within. Counsel moves for a mistrial."

11. If their county commissioners don't have anything to do
I can find something for them.
This thing cost money that might have been better used on almost anything else.
It will eventually be removed, of course. It's an obvious attempt of the commissioners to rub their religion in our faces. And they had to know it.
If it were my county, I'd attack along two lines.
First and most obvious is Church and State separation.
Second is malfeasance.
Even if they just had to do it they wasted a lot of money.
The use of costly granite adds insult to injury. This thing would have been more economically achieved with granite tile over common concrete. They couldn't avoid knowing that.
It would be nice if these assholes had to personally pony up the cash for their 6 ton paperweight.
