Why the dem traitors must go down
We now have a de facto 3 party system: Repukes, Democrats and Politicians. This third group believes in nothing except their own re-election, so that they can keep enjoying the percs of power. For all of the pressure that we put on these people, the only way that we will change things is to actively demonstrate OUR power and work to get some of these folks defeated. Preferably by primary challenge, but if not by staying at home or even voting for the puke candidate. They only understand power, and until at least 1-2 of them goes down in a way that is clearly linked to dissatisfaction in their "base", they will continue to ignore us. Unfortunately some are in "safe" seats, but not all of them are.
Remember: there will be a hell of a lot of pressure on dems this fall to "forgive and forget". We can't let this happen. I know there are many who believe that keeping a politician in office with a "D" attached to their name is worth something, but come on folks, it isn't. Ask yourself: How would this vote have gone if those 24 traitors had been "R" instead of "D"? How would the investigations into W's malfeasance have gone if the Senate had 75 "R"'s? How would the so called "war on terror" have gone with 25 "D" votes? Frankly, I don't think much different than the present situation.
So: If you are stuck in a sate with republican leadership, by all means work to vote them out. If you are in a state lucky enough to have true democrats (Mass!), support them with all of your power. But if you are unlucky to live in a state "led" by the Politician party (Washington, anybody?, Conn?), they must be treated the same as if they had an "R" by their name.
flame away if you need to...

3. Not unless it is 51+ against.
Hiding behind a no vote on Alito with a yes on cloture is chickenshit duplicitous crap.

6. Yes, if they can achieve that 51+ vote against him...
... in the general vote, then I'll respect them having a coup of strategy to "trade" the fillibuster votes with the Republicans on the other side to get the 51+ vote. But we all know that's probably impossible. Reid, impress us with your ability to get this 51+ vote majority now! Otherwise, I believe your leadership (at least spiritually) over this party is OVER!

2. Safe seats are vulnerable to primary challenges
I agree with you except for the 'voting for pukes' part. Where there is a contested election, funding and primary challenges can work, where there is a safe seat a primary challenge is a real pain in the ass and will cause grief and anguish.

Rather than voting puke, consider independents.

Lamont in Conn. is getting a donation from me, thanks to the mendacity of joementum.

4. Do yourself and the rest of us a favor
Stop worrying about them in DC because the system will never change as long as corporations are allowed free access to politicians the way they have now.

Worry about your local school board and town/county councils. This is how the republicans first gained power was by going after these minor but influential positions where they could have local elected officials put status of the 10 Commandments on the front lawn of government buildings and teach our children dumb-ass theories pulled out of the ass of some religious nutbag.

This just didn't happen yesterday - this has been going on for 30+ years because the neo-cons had a plan and that plan was to start small and grow. We're so busy failing at our efforts to scale Mount Everest we never considered maybe we ought to learn how to mountain climb first like the republicans have been doing for years. And then we sit back and scratch our asses and wonder why we've been losing.

One only needs to look at those local positions to realize that we are slowly numbing the masses. And when you realize that we, the online community of political junkies, are the real minority we might wake-up and realize that the problem is we need to log off our computers and start getting active LOCALLY.

Religion is the mind-numbing substance of the neo-con right. I mean, you don't think these idiots actually practice the religion they push upon the rest of us do you? But if we can numb the masses with god-fearing, bullshit non-issues then the masses will become the proles needed to be dumb & clueless enough to realize that the best in life we can hope for is a new Wal-Mart to open in our neighborhood so we can buy cheap crap from Taiwan and get a job making $6/hr.

5. Primary challenges are a good idea
Because that is a time to really talk about how progressive the incumbant is. However, in some states, this could really backfire; some of the Senators are in conservative states, and feel they are really sticking their necks out voting on anything remotely progressive. I am just sorry that I couldn't convince my two Democratic Senators about the dangers of Alito-either that, or they didn't feel they could explain the danger to Arkansans (which is silly; Arkansans I've seen and talked to are really mad about wiretaps, and are against Alito if they find it likely he'd make such stuff legal).

7. I refuse to eat any Democrat for Breakfast

I am disappointed in those that voted NO but we must move on and hope that our efforts were not in vain.

Alito is not the end of the earth and I refuse to let Republicans believe that we are defeated.

If we only would learn to take the Republican approach!

They spin , spin , spin and we eat our own for Breakfast.

They rarely speak an unkind word about DeLay, King George and all their other crooks.
