Bush Transforms Into Avid Mountain Biker
Bush bicycles while troops die ...

November 22, 2006

Swapping his running shoes for bicycle pedals, President Bush bid adieu to painful runner's knees and transformed himself into a devoted mountain biker - and high-tech gearhead.

Even with elections looming, the cyclist-in-chief made time earlier this month for his ritual mountain biking on weekends. He changed into biking clothes and muddied up his newest ultra-pricey mountain bike given him by a manufacturer, a $5,000 Cannondale with a custom red, white and blue paint job. The 2007 model was put in his hands even before it had been shipped to stores.

Such a passion it is: he also went biking Thursday while spending the Thanksgiving holiday at his mountaintop retreat in Camp David, Md.

"He's an avid rider, a fanatic," said Matt Mannelly, president of Bethel, Conn.-based Cannondale, who hadn't publicized but confirmed what he called an unsolicited gift to Bush a month ago. "We also made it very clear we wouldn't do anything to market this. To give it to someone like the president, who's actually going to use it a lot, means a lot to us."

Bush already has two Trek mountain bikes, one worth $5,500, the other $2,700.

1. Anybody out there want to donate a bike to me? I am not picky. I'd settle for a bike ...
worth less than 5 grand. I promise to tell everyone the source of the bike.

3. Actually, he's a road biker on a mountain bike
Edited on Thu Nov-23-06 04:18 PM by Little Wing
Mountain biking takes a hell of a lot more physical coordination that biking on the road, and I don't believe for a second his bike is "all mudded up".

This asshole can't even go around an oval track without running over an Englishman, and I'm supposed to believe he's navigating rocks, sticks, holes, mud, jumps, etc etc.

Buuuuuuuullshit.

4. How many bikes does he need?
A couple of those could be traded in and give a few kids a thrill of a lifetime just by having their own bike(the non pricey every day kind). Why is it those who can afford it the most get things given to them because of who they are? So many just getting by never even get a chance to buy things becuase of the cost and no corporation ever gives THEM a break.

I have however, seen a Segway ridin' monkey before.
And after that, I thought I had seen everything.

9. I don't believe anything they say about Bush
Everything about the guy is a fake, everything is for photo ops. It's like when Bush crashed in the mud when it hadn't rained in weeks.

10. I hate to say this, but
the weather at Camp David was dreadful for bicycling today. There was a drizzle in DC, and it wasn't any too warm.

Hagerstown MD weather

Frederick MD weather

This is also the weather report for Dick Cheney's double super secret bunker at Site R, aka Raven Rock.

15. This is the biggest pile of dirty dishes I have seen all day
Some excerpts from the above article

It was only three years ago that Bush took up cycling after a painful knee forced him to cut back on jogging. At 60, he is an exceptionally fit rider who likes to go hard, always at the head of a small pack of other riders.

(snip)

"He's an avid rider, a fanatic," said Matt Mannelly, president of Bethel, Conn.-based Cannondale, who hadn't publicized but confirmed what he called an unsolicited gift to Bush a month ago.

(snip)

The president's thoughts drifted to his newest bike on the campaign trail. Maybe it was a calorie-conscious moment at a local farmer's ice cream store in Pennsylvania, or the anticipation of busting his lungs on an expensive new machine over rocky ruts. Whatever the impulse, Bush said he'd gotten a new bike and was looking forward to riding it.

(end snip)

What a waste of electrons. What a waste of a presidency.

16. The media is sure desperate to give him some positive press, aren't they?
They told us YEARS ago that he had given up jogging in favor of biking..

How many times must they tell us the same stuff??

19. About time the SS
hand ASSHOLE a Parachute if they expect him to live through another bout with high tech stuff, like WHEELS...

I've always wondered why the media didn't say that he was "rear mounting" that Segway that he FELL OFF OF, because he didn't know that things had an ON/OFF SWITCH :)

We've all seen the pic (it's in the thread above), so here's how I would have written it for the Media:

"The President trained the Loyal Segway to 'bow' down so that he could mount it like a Trusty Horse, carefully stepping backwards, with one hand on the fence.."

Like I said, GET DUMBASS A PARACHUTE.. :)

22. I had to....
....beg, steal and borrow to get $250 together this summer to buy a crappy Trek Nav 50 and bush gets 5 grand bikes for 'free'....only in America....

....you know, I've never killed anyone, had anyone killed or even sent anyone someplace to get killed....so I guess have to PAY for my bike....

....if those manufacturers thought they were doing something positive in giving away free product to a rich and powerful asshole, they were mistaken....

....and add to the $250 cost of my bike, my portion of increased federal taxes for the no-doubt inflated chaitable/business-expense tax-break these pricks will take for giving the president a 'free' gift....
