First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.

The purse snatching took place on Barbara's first night in town while she was dining in the picturesque San Telmo neighborhood. According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident.

The big deal is that this is a failure of our Secret Service. Sure, the items will be replaced, but the root issue here is that Barbara is suppose to be protected by our best and brightest....yet she was robbed.

But it's really tough to tell from this short article. Even if we take this at face value and accept that it was a purse snatching, remember the secret service is there to keep her alive, not to retrieve her bag. A snatched purse could well be a distraction, so the agents' reaction would probably be to immediately surround her and NOT to chase after the guy with the purse.
