Just think: No I-pods, no e-mail, no sleeping late, no DU...
That's what you could lose if you had to go thru basic training. On top of that, some big fat-ass Sergeant could be screaming down your throat. Forced to run a mile in the morning, forced to do push-ups until you collapse, forced to stand in line at attention, forced to keep your eyes straight ahead, forced to eat what they gave you, and forced to go where they would send you. You would just be a spoke in the wheel. You would have no freedom. Your job would be to get freedom for everyone else. No Comedy Show and no C-SPAN for a few weeks. No bad-mouthing the military - no sirree! A structured lifestyle. Now who in the hell would want to be drafted into something like that?

1. Phew. For a minute there I thought you were talking about...
... the downside of slavery.

Oh, wait...

2. Only a mile?
You wish! btw, our D/I ran with us and wasn't fat. None of them were. This is the new military, I hear they have "new" rules, so they have to be a lot nicer now...

3. But they have to take into consideration that "draftees" are...
fat, lazy, wimpy wusses and not capable of defending themselves, let alone their country. They would need to be handicapped for the gruel training... :)

like when I went through basic in December, and we went on a 20 mile hike with no long underwear or gloves at 10 below/wind chill -50?

Several people in my platoon lost the tips of their ears, and others had their hands and feet treated for frostbite.

Edited to add: Nicer? Like proper clothing?

6. Or maybe a boil on your ass....
Put a bar of lye soap under your armpit and it will drive up your bloodpressure and you will fail your physical. There are so many ways to escape the draft...Go to college. Declare as a conscientious objector. Don't sweat the small stuff...
