Gov DEAN: 'This Is The NEW Dem Party-The OLD Dem Party Is Back In Washington'
TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. -- Democratic chairman Howard Dean on Friday took a swipe at Washington critics who questioned his strategy of spending money in all 50 states, dismissing them as the "old Democratic Party."

Basking in the afterglow of last week's election victories, Dean told the state party chairmen who were among the biggest beneficiaries of his strategy that it was an approach marked by Democratic wins at all levels of government.

"It was a great win for what I call the new Democratic Party," Dean said in a speech to the Association of State Democratic Chairs. "This is the new Democratic Party. The old Democratic Party is back there in Washington, sometimes they still complain a little bit."

...

"The people who complain always get the headlines," Dean said, adding there are other high-profile Democrats who support his initiative. "But the fact is that this strategy not only works, it works in states Democrats have given up on for 30 years.

7. I can't remember when I've seen a prominent leader who
1. had such vision AND
2. the executive ability to make things happen and the vision materialize

It's rare to find both. You find them more often in business, much more rarely in public service, and certainly even MORE rarely at the national level.

9. He really did find the right position
I wanted him to be president, but in retrospect I think this is just the right position for him. He had to break through some Old Dem mindsets about fundraising and overall strategies, but he's done a terrific job. It suits him well.

4. Tell 'em, Howard!
Kudos to Howard Dean. And Kudos to all the state campaign people, volunteers, the netroots, MoveOn (Call for Change), and everyone who canvassed, called, emailed, and otherwise worked for this victory.

Note I did not include the DLC types in that list.

10. No wonder the Republicans said Democrats should dump him
Howard Dean is the Democrats biggest asset and the Republicans worse nightmare. He brought back the Democratic Party, we are competitive in places that have been Republican for years.
