Breaking on CNN - Foley investigation in Florida, upgraded to criminal
They said that they are now looking at possible criminal charges against Foley. They will be investigating if any of the communications originated out of Florida as well.

Foley is currently in Florida for the funeral of his father, who died on Tuesday.

no link yet.

5. Took them long enough, didn't it?
BTW, when are we going to get to see the investigation that they held in Congress? Shouldn't Hastert be making that public soon?

9. I keep checking for ethics committee results, but
haven't found anything yet. The election is over; what are they waiting for?

14. actually it is only a crime due to a law he wrote
Provided Foley actually did wait until the pages were adults to actually have the sex, he only broke the law he authored. If he did have sex with them before the age of consent then he either broke state law or both state law and the Mann Act.

17. slight correction
Soliciting a minor over the web has been a crime in Florida for a few years now. Cyber sex is considered solicitation.

2. And yet 48% the voters in his district voted for him
And make no mistake about it, they voted for him because his name was on the ballot.

4. Excellent. I heard some jackass on NPR today saying
that the election was about Iraq only. I'm not buying that one. This past election was about a whole host of issues, republican criminal activity most definitely among them.

8. I totally agree with you
Iraq was the "last straw" but I think there were voters out there who didn't and still don't care one bit about the war. I think they care about their wallets, their incomes, the corruption scandals, the sex scandals, etc. It was a smorgasbord of reasons for voters to want them out.

10. I agree
At least a few times on at least the local affiliates I watched their campaign coverage and people gave a lot of different answers and Iraq was not the only issue. Corruption and other social issues like raising the minimum wage and yes even abortion was mentioned.

6. I'mso sorry his father lived long enough tobe so disappointed
by the actions of his son. I have no idea what their relationship was like, but to have his son's criminal actions in every news media just before the man died is terrible.

16. Oh gee, after YEARS of predation are ADMITTED TO, it's "possibly" criminal?
Kinda like the old Monty Python "Piranha Brothers" sketch.

They cut to some stock footage of an A-bomb blast,
while the voice-over announcer solemnly intones:
"At this point, even the POLICE began to sit up and take notice."
