His interview on why the US didn't try to conquer and occupy Iraq in 1991.

Who SERIOUSLY doubts that his mission is to get US troops out of Iraq?

work for his own personal agenda. In *'s case, it throw out the baby with the water.

Plus, it seems the CIA was involved in the torture and other ditry tricks in Iraq. And here again is another CIA person. This sends out alarm bells for me. * is trying to destroy the CIA so that it works for him alone.

I also understand that this guy has his
University job at Texas A&M or wherever
in order to safeguard the Bush I papers that
are stored there. ( or so says Mo Dowd)

I understand the misgivings, but also heard Rand Beers,( who was
the very savvy anti-terror guy who quit the current White House and
became Kerrys advisor) on NPR the other day,
says Gates worked with him in Bush I NSC staff, and
Gates had learned the lesson that good intel was
of primary importance.
I've got to give some weight to that.

As the video confirms, this is someone who remembers history, and
knew the CIA when it
was more than a tool of the executive.

CIA is not a monolithic organization. It has some
killers in it, but also some good guys, like
Ray McGovern, who really
believe its motto: "The Truth shall make you free".

3. Gates HAD a plan and authorization to get the Iraqis out
of Kuwait. They knew going into Iraq would be a mistake because there
could be NO viable exit strategy.. What this means is that Bush, Cheney
and Rumsfeld KNEW, they were forwarned, they would be dealing themselves
a LOSER IF they went into Iraq, especially, under the guise of getting Saddam.

As early as LAST week, Bush admitted during a campaign speech, we needed to stay
there to PROTECT THE OIL! He told the TRUTH for once- but he let the cat out of
bag. The ONLY reason we entered Iraq was to pirate their OIL.

Now who has committed the higher Crime? Bush or Saddam?

6. If you think Gates hasn't been given detailed orders by Baker/Pops
and is his own man without an agenda from The Power Structure, then you have been asleep. Wake up and see the Cleaner.

7. Orders to do what?
It appears that his orders are to get us out of Iraq.

Are we going to diss this guy because he's a republican getting us out of Iraq?

If so, I'm not on that train.

I don't understand your comment other than a suggestion that I'm asleep.

8. I mean, sure we're getting out of Iraq. That's good. But the bad guys
are still in charge. And they will do anything to avoid accountability. And accountability is what we need, not a slick guiltless sneak out the back door and back on the road to greater profits--on and off the books. Which, IMO, will be Gates' task. Better oil contracts more heroin, and pardons for all. That sux, even if the helicopters rescue our kids from the Baghdad roofs.

It doesn't have anything to do with Republicans. It's the War Party. They live to fight another day, and sacrifice some other generation, later on. That's the plan. It worked in Viet Nam, Iran Contra and dozens of other examples. Gates is there to save their bacon so they can come back later on. I want them outed and destroyed now,and forever. No more phony pardons. No more secret government, whatever party practices it.

9. I differ
Of course they'll try to blame someone else. When is that not new?

Getting out, regardless of who does it is the point for the thousands of Americans and Iraqis who will NOT be maimed and killed by a continuation of the neocon policies.

This guy is good news to me. Poppy hired him. The attempted conquest of Iraq is beginning to be over and I'm very happy about that. I don't care if Lucifer himself, in person, was in charge of getting us out.

11. Of course, you're exactly right.

and my sentiments exactly. The radical idealists here habitually equate the only people qualified (in their mind's eye) to effectuate concrete solutions be limited to the principles of their moral character. These ideologues life purpose revolve around the purging and cleansing of the political landscape be done by people of the highest integrity, impeccable moral character and herculean resolve. Their Ideology is so radically entrenched, it is as dangerous as the disconnect attributed to the fundamentalist of any stripe. Theirs is a war of attrition linking
problem solving to harnessed morality which in of itself smacks of Christian fundamentalism.

In an IDEAL world, the problems we're facing would not exist. War and the real prospect of catastrophic global warming looming on the horizon would not be issues for consideration. Our planet and it's tellurians would be living in harmony within a symbiotic environment exponentially beneficial to all.

The above paragraph is far and away oblivious to our own reality. The sooner the ideologues come to grips with the nature and scope of our reality, the sooner they can assist in providing viable solutions. Until then, they remain part of it's problem and until they realize we have to work with what we have as a resource- until the political landscape is cleaned up which could take years.
