2. Not anymore
Just saw the promo @ the end of my local lame ass news show.

I wanted to see if the local station was going to cover the push
by Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy to get all the ballots counted in
the recent election ..... (no that didn't)

But they did have 10 minutes or so of Xmas shopping tips. :puke:

Although with only getting locals I don't have lots of choices.

10. You may want to reread the actual title of the thread:
"CBS news w/ Fluffy Katie = Fox Light" Either "Fluffy Katie" or "Fox Light" are reasons enough not to watch her.

11. You think Katie's politics are republican and that she puts a conservative spin on the CBS news???
I entirely disagree. I don't always agree with any news outlet, but I stereotype none of them. (However, Faux News and MSNBC's Tucker Carlson, do represent the complete a-hole perspective, all the time.)

13. Feel free to disagree. I have my opinion, you have yours.
My reasons are just as valid to me as yours are to you. Not to watch Katie is my personal choice which is not arbitrary and is not based upon stereotypes, but experience since she is not exactly a fresh, new face on tv. After all, choice is one of the things that being a Democrat is all about and I choose not to watch Katie.

21. No, you're presenting a fallacious argument.
People criticize Katie, therefore they must be misogynists.

Perhaps the widespread criticism is due to her recently acquiring the position and therefore being subject to more intense scrutiny than the others you mention. That would be a much more reasonable conclusion to draw than assuming all criticism must be sexist in origin, don't you think?

23. You're suggesting that recently acquiring a position is deserving of criticism?
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 01:43 AM by jaxhud
Is Brian Williams or Charles Gibson criticised in the same breath as the criticisms of Katie? No. Yet, they all report exactly the same news. They might as well all be using the exact same teleprompter. Misogynists just don't like Katie reading it to them, that's all. It's the same reason Pelosi has been blasted for the past four years. Men don't like women in positions of power or authority.

Tell me one legitimate reason that you don't like Katie Couric, whereas Brian or Charles does a superior job.

28. Now it's time for you to keep up with the discussion, mkay?
And none of the talking heads is immune to criticism here. But the subject is KATIE. If you want to discuss newsreaders comparatively, start a thread in that vein. But this one, again, is about her. Just like there are hundreds of threads about Tweety, Tucker, and other talking heads. It's not necessary to criticize every other newsreader in order to criticize her. She's just as bad as the ones you've mentioned, and just because she's a woman doesn't mean she can't be criticized. In fact, as a feminist, I find it objectionable that you apparently want to apply different standards to her, even though you acknowledge that they're all equally bad.

32. I'm saying that her broadcast is superior to the other two. That's what I'm saying.
I'm saying it's irrefutable, and that anyone that doesn't like her does so because she is a woman. It's not the Jim Lehrer news hour, but it's far better than the crap they got on abc and nbc.

9. Bringing on Diane Sawyer to discuss Ed Bradley's obit got me thinking
Wouldn't Diane Sawyer make a GREAT replacement for perky Katie?

Since the only good thing about Couric's selection was her gender, her replacement with an actual credible reporter would have to bring in another woman. And reporters don't come any more credible than Diane Sawyer.

Katie needs to be transferred to CBS Morning News or fired, preferably the latter.

12. If you want a Mel Gibson interview call Diane Sawyer, or Barbara Walters.
Give Katie a chance. All the anchors are practically the same anyway, besides Cronkite of course.

And Bob Schieffer still has a large role with the broadcast and the organization. I like his ability to now provide opinionated commentary.

38. Right. War correspondents are far more credible. Just look at Wolf.
The Gulf War gave him tons of credibility.

Or, maybe, truth in journalism does not depend on prior war correspondence. Maybe truth in journalism should end or even prevent war.

Then again, look at what Bush's "embedding" did for 21st century war correspondents, it gave them the experience they need to get their own 'Situation Rooms' in 10 years. We'll really be soaking up the credibility then.

14. I'm ok with Katie.
Liked her on the morning show when I could catch it. She's paid her dues; local news, WH correspondent, etc. I her perkiness doesn't bother me. Doesn't come across as much on the evening news. She can be serious too. Didn't see all the ripping of Brian and Charlie when they were elevated to the anchor chair. But kudos to her for making it in a mainly male dominated industry. Not sure what her politics are, she sure does get bashed a lot from the right, personally I think she leans left. As you say, everyon is entitled to their own opinions.

19. I agree. I think she is a Democrat. She helped McCaskill and Stem Cell research, tremendously,
by giving Michael J. Fox equal-time to respond to Rush Limbaugh. Why would Democrats here at DU be against that? Katie has helped us. If you don't like the 22-minute, ratings-oriented, network evening news then say that, but Katie, alone, is not the problem.

Katie is not comparable to Faux News!!!!

But, if you're a misogynist, then it's probably natural for you to dislike any female newscaster, irrespective of the fact that all three networks usually report the same exact stories up unto their final 5 minutes, which is usually a nonconsequential human-interest story reported simply for entertainment/mood-improving value.

Blame all your problems on Katie, it'll make you feel intellectually superior. Sure will.

See, it's like this. I don't play with, well - we're not allowed to call them out on the board.

It's a waste of time to play with them. Nothing really goes in. And nothing certainly comes out.

But it's very easy to fix.

How?

Well, it means I won't be SEEING you anymore, if you get my drift.

30. Yes... she interviewed Michael J. Fox...
But in the same breathe gave equal time to Rush Limbaugh on his "Taken out of context" comments... :eyes:

She's done very little for Democrats. All you have to do is watch her interview of Howard Dean to figure out her political stance.

31. Right. Intellectual superiority dictates as much. Katie Couric equals Bill O'Reilly.
It's so obvious. The Pepsi/Coke methaphor really cleared it up for me. Katie really is getting a fair shake. It's her conservative news broadcast that has brought on all this well-deserved criticism.

Seriously though, I wonder, do misogynist's have Mothers, and if so, how sad Mother's day must be for them?
