No Cloture on Alito Until Bush's Illegal Spying Fully Investigated
I want to reiterate what I wrote in 'Dear Gov. Dean -- “and a couple of big, dangerous lies”':

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=266396&mesg_id=266396

Every Democratic Senator, and any Republican Senators actually interested in adhering to their Oath of Office, should place the Alito nomination on the back burner, i.e., NO CLOTURE, until the Senate Judiciary Committee (and other investigative authorities) have fully explored the scope of Bush's illegal and un-Constitutional spying.

They should do so because:

1. Why would anyone trust a nomination to the Supreme Court from an individual who brazenly and repeatedly has broken the law;

2. Alito's pedigree suggests he'd be more than willing to acquiesce should future American kings (euphemistically termed "president") violate Federal statutes and the Constitution because, well, that's the kingly thing to do.

NO CLOTURE UNTIL BUSH, CHENEY, GONZALES, YOO, ADDINGTON et al., ARE INVESTIGATED FOR VIOLATING THE NATIONAL SECURITY ACT OF 1947, FISA, 18 USC 1001, & THE 4th AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (and probably a bunch of other stuff this biologist is unaware).

Peace.

1. Simply, why would we allow a felon to appoint his judge?

2. Posted the following on Congressman Conyers' blog:

No Cloture on Alito Until Bush's Illegal Spying Crimes are Fully Investigated:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=266396&mesg_id=266396

All Senate Dems and Repubs need, to focus on one simple fact, Bush is under investigation for multiple violations of Federal statutes and the Constitution. Until that is resolved, no judicial appointments can legitimately be considered or approved.

NO CLOTURE ON ALITO.

Maybe you can share this with your Senate Democratic colleagues, Congressman Conyers, as they begin to realize "We the People ..." are going to hold all our employees in DC accountable.

Thank you for your exceptional leadership,

4. I really think if we can get the Dems (and even some Repubs) to focus ...
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 01:12 AM by understandinglife
... on the simple fact that Bush and his administration are under investigation for illegal spying on American citizens that they then have the "cover" that some of them think they need to place Alito -- ON HOLD.

Since when do accused felons get to select judges? And, whether Bush, Gonzales, Addington, Cheney, Yoo, and others don't realize it just yet, they are indeed ACCUSED, MULTI_COUNT FELONS.

Peace.

8. You know, we often find some very strong arguments around here, and
you have to wonder why the "pros" can't get it. Your comment here is dead on. The Dems should be saying that Bush is appointing someone whose record strong suggests the nominee will keep him out of trouble when the very serious legal matters involving the WH.

I have had success in dealing with conservatives in my small circle by teling them that everyone is so hung up on Roe they don't realize he allowed the strip search of the girl, the armed storming of that farmer's family, and things of that nature. Conservatives hate that kind of thing as much as any of us, but all they know is that one question that keeps everything else hidden: Where does he stand on Roe?

Believe it or not, I have conservative friends who view this nomination as solely to keep Bush out of trouble because of wiretapping, dishonesty leading up to the war, and the whole ball of wax. It's just that the extreme majority SIMPLY DON'T KNOW.

9. but so many people
don't think Bush has done anything wrong, that whatever he has done, and continually doing, is to keep us safe from the terrorists. Bush says it's all legal, he said that legal word probably 50 times in the last week. You say things enough then people believe it.

17. Yes. But there are not many conservatives who would approve of this
guy if they knew the details we do on governmental power and intrusion. It feeds into the same argument.

But I do understand your point. Have had that discussion with my wife many times...

18. Cancel the REX84 Executive Orders 'suspend the Constitution'
FEMA and Rex84
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/pages/fema.html

The FEMA intelligence duties are now vested in the ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement branch of DHS now with the 'realignment' of government. The Executive Orders still exist and all they need is the stroke of Bush's pen.
