My congratulations also to those of you who led the way here on DU. I worked on election day from 5 am to 11:30 pm, processing about 1800 voters in Prince William County. It's a grueling, long day but worth it and essential to the voting process. Be aware that there is a chronic shortage of Election Officials, so please consider signing up for the next election. There's a small remuneration ($100 in VA) but that's not the reason I did it.
An interesting note...In the morning, there were poll watchers (repub, I believe) who insisted that the person checking in each voter loudly call out the name and address of each voter. I was surprised to learn that this is permitted by VA law. I understand that this type of poll watcher has a list of registered (repub) voters, checks off those who voted, then goes home in the afternoon to encourage those who had not yet voted, to vote.
I also had someone tell me that they received an email..from the GOP...telling them their correct voting location.
Many voting locations had changed in my precinct and I must have had about 100 voters tell me they went to their former polling place, but it had changed, and they had not been informed. There were also a number of voters who showed up at my location but their voting location had also changed. Everyone was then told of their correct voting location but I wonder how many people failed to go through the process again at the new location, after waiting up to an hour already. I had voted absentee, but I checked if my location had changed and it did, but I do not believe that I was informed. I don't know if there is a story here but it was surprising that this happened. Other voters indicated that they had been informed of the change. Others indicated that they had been switched back to theira previous voting location and wondered why this would happen.
