Critics of the Dems have a point.
It isn't good enough to just be "the party without George Bush."

I followed the election fairly closely, and while I'm thrilled the the Neo-con agenda just got derailed, we need offer something more than "not being the other guy" if last night's elections are going to be something that has legs.

For instance, Iraq.

What is the plan? Do we pull out? And what becomes if Iraq if we do? Do we hand it over to the UN?

Domestically, the idea of impeaching Bush is hard to stomach. It could be suicide for 2008. However, it would show the world and Iraq that we are deeply sorry for the war.

On the economy? Are we just going to continue to sign trade agreements that incentivize the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs to the third world?

Do we have a plan for health care?

Do we really believe in middle class tax cuts, preserving social programs AND balancing the budget? Just how in the world is that going to be accomplished.

We stopped their agenda. That is the victory. For now.

But there is much work to do. And the Dems need to get to work fast, be brave and do somethings that are unpopular.

This country is a bloody mess right now. Do we have the guts to do what's right to fix it?

That's the big question on my mind.

But I also believe that the middle class should probably give back the GWB tax cut.
I never wanted the damn thing in the first place.
I believe in government by the people, for the people.
I believe in good government. I believe in schools. Libraries. Public galleries. Road improvements. Parks. As a native of Canada who's moved to the US, I believe in public health care.I believe in the common good. And I'm willing to pay more for it if I half to. And I recognize the working poor and those on social programs probably can't afford to pay as much as I can.

But I believe the Dems are going to have stop trying to be everything to all people.
The middle class, if for no other reason than symbolism, has to pay for these things ,too.

And yes, I believe in progressive taxation. So the more you make, the higher you pay. So the rich have to pay. And so do the corporations. But at the same time, taxing corporations is VERY tough because both the DEMs and Libs have made it so easy for them to just up and leave if they don't like the taxes in one locale (thank you trade agreements).

I just got off the phone with a Michigan state rep. The first thing he working on after re-election in the Michigan state house? Reducing business taxes.

Maybe I'm a relic. But I believe in public spending. I destest the "tax and spend" moniker. But damn it, that's the Democratic Party I know in my heart.

Boy, was Tweety hopping mad that the victorious Democratic candidates (including, in particular, one Senate candidate in New York) were making acceptance speeches aimed at the people in the room instead of addressed directly to Tweety. He had a panel of folks that he was positively haranguing because candidates were thanking their volunteers, supporters and staff, and clapping and dancing to music in their victory ballrooms instead of telling Tweety how important he was.

I watched for about a minute, minute and a half, and concluded that Mr. Matthews' little red caboose had at last gone chuggin' around the bend.

simply because KO was on. I could not believe my ears!

He is one of the biggest JERKS I've ever seen! and that Noron. Ohmygawd. No wonder people make fun of these RW blowbags.

Noron was praising Bush for reacting so quickly, and being a decisive leader. The spin is worse now than ever.
