Looks like 1927 didn't happen
In spite of rebpubs claim that democratic return to congressional power would adversely affect the stock market, it rose both today and yesterday, in anticipation of, and in turn the reality, of democratic victory.

Another claim laid waste...

1. psst ... the stock market crash was in 1929.

2. The sectors expecting trouble down the road are
Oil (Dem's will push to get royalties and like California push for a surcharge to fund alternate energy development), Defense (do we really need stealth patrol boats? or Rods from God Space weapons?), and Big Pharma (force US gov't to negotiate lower prices for medicare based on volume).

There also maybe much tougher oversight of hedge funds. And any company expecting to get a tax deduction for off-shoring its operation after 2008 is delusional.

Looks to me like maybe defense is already pulling back a bit.

3. Yes, but the great flood in New Orleans happened in 1927. . .

giving rise to a politician named Huey Long, who won the LA governorship on voter discontent with the status quo.

Some of his programs later became inspiration for the "New Deal" when FDR became POTUS in the aftermath of the 1932 elections (another result of voter discontent with the status quo).

:kick:

Did history just repeat itself? Well, we saw Hurricane Katrina devastate New Orleans in the summer of 2005. One year later, voter discontent with the criminal ineptitude of Bush and Congress gave rise to last night's election results.
