THE ALITO 48 - Saturday Update From Bob Fertig
The Alito 48
By Bob Fertik
Created 2006-01-27 00:13
Saturday Updates:

Senators are freaking out! They've all turned off their DC phones and their voicemails are full. Let's try their state offices (details coming) and get ready to start calling DC again at 9:00 a.m. on Monday! In the meantime try their local offices and fax lines using this page.
Bush is freaking out! He used his Saturday radio address to demand an "upperdown" vote, exactly 91 days after denying Harriet Miers her "upperdown" vote! Maybe he's reading his hopeless polls?
The corporate media whores are freaking out!
Pro-filibuster additions: Paul Sarbanes (#13)
Three Democratic men told us to go fuck ourselves: Mark Pryor, Ken Salazar, and Kent Conrad. I'm tracking their statements at AlitoTraitorWatch
20-odd Senators can't figure out what to do. With a hat-tip to Josh Marshall, I'm calling them the "Clueless Caucus" and tracking their statements at AlitoWaffleWatch
Read these great blogs from BuzzFlash, John Nichols, Huffington Post and BradBlog. And for off-topic fun, don't miss Bob Geiger's Saturday Cartoons.
Through Vatican spokesman Cardinal Armando, Pope Markos I blessed the Kossack peasant uprising, and there is much joy in KosVille!
Watch the Young Turks filibuster
DNC chair Howard Dean told reporters in Rhode Island on Friday, "we have to do whatever we have to do. I don’t have a say in whether we have a filibuster but I am very supportive of what Sen. Kennedy and Sen. Kerry are doing." Great Howard - then call the Clueless Caucus!
We need to stop George Bush from getting 60 Senators to end the filibuster on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

That means we must convince 41 Senators to either support a filibuster or stay away from the Senate on Monday, preferably by visiting maimed soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital.

1. I have been advocating for the stay away solution all day.
The cowards and traitors in the Democratic party need to develop Alitian flu, or go home for a funeral, or to visit a sick relative or check into the hospital on Monday.

3. Stopping Alito will bring the Rove/bush agenda to a grinding halt.
Thanks for this post. It's encouraging. Who the hell are Mark Pryor and Kent Conrad? :silly:

I'm taking off work Monday in order to attend to this situation. Fortunately, I have that option. It would be so nice to have some R&R (which I have less and less of thanks to bush), but if I don't do everything I can to stop Alito and the worst still happens, I'll never forgive myself for not trying harder.

7. Mark Pryor is from Ark
His dad is David Pryor, who was a great Senator and Real Democrat and Ex-Gov of Ark. He teaches at Kennedy School of Politics at Harvard (I hope I have the school correct, if not, sorry), but his son is NOTHING like him. He got in on his dad's name only. He seems to be a Repub-Lite.

10. That's just rich, isn't it. Bill Clinton's home state has a Dino fink.
Speaking of fathers and sons, Pat Robertson's father was a great Senator, too, and a Democrat. Makes you wonder how the blood could thin so much in just one generation.

Well, Mr. Pryor's office will get a phone call from me on Monday. I'm armed for bear. :7

11. Cloture vs. the "uperdown" vote
Vote for cloture is on Monday with the "presumptive" vote on Alito on Tuesday. So Monday's vote is the one we're fighting for. We *know* that the Repubs are going to lock-goose-step to vote to confirm if we let them.

13. NOTE: Unlike our elections, there is no way for BushCo
or ANYONE to filter our input. Anyone else noticing this?

This is probably a far better reality check to Democratic Senators than any vote you've cast in more than ten years.

GO FOR IT!

15. What an awesome line:"support a filibuster or stay away from the Senate"
"either support a filibuster or stay away from the Senate on Monday, preferably by visiting maimed soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital."

I'm including that in my letters and calls to my local Senators! Great stuff! Thanks!! :hi:
