1. Are you counting Sanders in there, or not?
Do you think HE's going to vote with the Republicans? Not likely...

8. Lieberman will caucus with the Dems.
No doubt about it. Despite is views on the war, Lieberman has a very liberal voting record.

10. I doubt it
I don't see that happening, Lieberman is a guy that likes power and he only holds it in CT if he stays with the Dems. I can see a recall law being enacted pretty quickly in a State like CT, with or without the Repuke Governors OK, if he ever did jump to the GOP.

11. You miscalculate
First of all, Sanders will caucus with the dems, and I believe Joe will too. With MT in the bag, and VA a likely win, I see a clear majority. That's reality.

16. It hinges on Virginia, NOT Lieberman
As much as I hate the man, he has promised to join the Democratic Caucus. I'll bet you $1,000 that he'll run as a Dem in 2012 (if he's not running for the Presidency). He'll probably switch his alliance back here soon. It is in his best interest.

18. No way Lieberman goes Repugnacon. The Democratic Party
has gone pretty far into the center-right, with this election, and he will be made at home. He has too much invested in the Democratic power-frame to switch now. If the Reptiles keep the senate, he may switch, but if his caucusing with the Democrats will put the Democrats into leadership, he will stick with them. Just MO.

19. Um, that still means that the Dems get all the Senate leadership positions
And they will get to determine which legislation does and doesn't see the light of day. Big power there.

The Senate is going to be gridlocked with or without Lieberman. Personally I say fuckim. If he wants to go caucus with the 'Pugs, let him.

21. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
Here's a reality check for you; We've got MT and it looks like it'll be Sen Webb in VA. With Bernie and Joe, that's 51. Lieberman will not switch. In 2008 we stand an excellent chance of winning more Senate seats as the repukes have far more seats up than dems, and several vulnerable ones. Lieberman ain't stupid. He knows if he tips it to a 50-50 Senate now, he stands a good chance of totally screwing himself in 2 years.

like a carrot ... and then Lieberman resigns, Repuke gets appointed Senator (In CT, is there a special election held, or is someone just appointed?), and Cheney retains the control ...

Lieberman has consistently voted left-of-center his entire political career. The one point where he stands differently than many of us is on the Iraq War, which he thinks is just and proper (though poorly executed). This is a problem for us as, on issues pertaining to that matter, there's no telling what Lieberman will do. But in general he was and is a Democrat.

I'm kinda' hoping that their will be tons of pressure for defection amongst the Republithug Senators who come up for reelection in 2008 after observing election results today, thereby neutering Lieberman on the Iraq issue.

One major difference between Republican and Democrat is that the former tend to follow authority, even blindly into a brick wall, it's the authoritarian mindset that occupies the Rightwing; the latter, we Democrats, tend to tolerate difference and therefore don't necessarily line-up rubber-stamp behind a leader. Lieberman is an example of that difference. There have been and will be others in our camp. Which makes our jobs a tad more difficult than the Republican side except when we successfully pull a few of their votes onto our issues.

(My pov, anyway.)

28. Not a chance...
he's repeatedly said he'll caucus with the Democrats; on most issues that aren't foreign-policy related he's so far out of step with the Republicans there's no way he'd be at home there...(check his ratings from groups like ACLU, NAACP, Planned Parenthood, NOW, etc. here).

35. Of course we can!
Come on, if there's anything this night has shown, it's that Democrats can create some miracles & some impossible wins. If MO & VA go Democrat, that's a 51 seat majority, not 50, as your OP stated. I don't know why you'd assume Lieberman will caucas w/the Republicans when it's the opposite of what he's stated & run on. I can't understand being defeatist at a time like this. Dems certainly can take over the Senate, & Dems are currently in the lead in both MO & VA. It's likely that the Senate will become Democratic.

37. There is absolutely no reason to think Lieberman will go GOP...
and some very good reasons for his going Dem.

For starters, Lieberman cares most about Lieberman, and that means he cares about being re-elected, something that probably won't happen in he caucuses with the GOP.

Second, Lieberman has already been promised a fat committee chair. Again, self-interest keeps him with the Dems.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to think Lieberman will go GOP.
