Before I went to bed last night, I knew the House was ours. I woke up this morning to the news that Claire McCaskill won over Talent, along with the passage of the Stem Cell Amendment and Minimum Wage hike. More great news! And now we are that close to controlling the Senate also. Let us hope that this happens to make our victory complete.
A mea culpa for my part. I was one of those around here who was sincerely convinced that the 'Pugs would rip off this election also, as they have for the past three elections. Apparently, due to more media exposure and greater public awareness, this was a very minimal factor. My apologies for my stand, and as I stated time and again, I took my position not to supress the vote, but to avoid a repeat of what has gone on in the past two elections, where we've gotten our hopes pumped way up, only to have a massive crash as the reality of election theft set in.
So now we have the House, and most likely the Senate. What is this going to mean for both Democrats and the rest of the country? Well, as far as legislation goes, it is going to mean a lot of gridlock. This isn't a bad thing, I will take gridlock over a rubberstamp conservative Congress any day of the week and twice on Sundays. But, with control of the House, and possibly the Senate, it means that we can investigate some of the outstanding Bushco wrongdoings and set the agenda. We can also set ourselves up for a clean sweep in '08.
And frankly, part of the fun this morning watching our opponents weep and wail. On FR and conservative chats across the 'net, you see the wailing and gnashing of teeth, complete with the futile, and ultimately unfulfillable, threats of violence. They're eating their own also, tossing Bush and others overboard in their anger and despair. If you haven't checked this out yet, you really should, it's a hoot, a great laugh, and after the past six years, it is a good thing to indulge in a bit of schadenfreude.
Congratulations everybody, we've done it. Savor this victory, and then let's start working towards two things, bringing these Bushco bastards to justice, and starting our march to the White House in '08.
