Diebold machines broke down at my polling place today...anyone else?
I guess my vote will count for sure this time.:bounce:

They had to have everyone vote paper ballot.

Anyone else experience this?

2. At my polling place they had three out of four machines down
at first. I asked the poll workers (my neighbors) what happened and they said they "couldn't get them started". This is in Oceanside, CA (San Diego County).

3. The paper ballots are being read by optical scanners.
At least in some regions. This makes me wonder what the story is with optical scanners: can they be hacked as easily? How does it work? I have no idea, as you can see, so probably I'm just blowing smoke.

5. Yes, opscan is easily hacked.
In fact, the Diebold opscan system is the final, very strong example in "Hacking Democracy". (HBO film, available on the Net.)

They subverted a memory card, causing a sample ballot that was 2-6 on paper to report as 7-1 when scanned. While this is old news to many of us here who were dealing with 2004 results, the movie really makes the point to those haven't been following this closely. From a small sample, they seem to get really quiet while processing what they just saw and then get really angry.
