Saddam's Sentencing Will Keep Iraq In The Headlines Through The Election
Bush and the republicans who orchestrated this hoped for a triumphant moment, but the subtext will be the question of whether we are 'safer' without Saddam. Hands down, Democrats win on that question, and that's been the driving issue in the campaign with a solid majority rejecting every one of Bush's Iraq explanations.

I hear Bush wants to focus on taxes in the closing days.

1. And The Bloodbath That Will Occur Immediately After The Verdict
Will solidify why the Eye-Rack shitmire is such a shitmire. Really, who doesn't think the Sunnis won't erupt even more when Saddam gets the gallows, or the Shiites won't get angry and even if Saddam miraculously gets acquitted?

2. I think there will be a massive bloodbath and we will lose a lot of
our guys for *'s dog and pony show trial. The Shia will dance in the streets, the Sunni will shoot them and our people will be in the middle.

3. I think it'll be business as usual
kinda like the Uday/Qusay reaction

The more lasting effect will be the removal of another of Bush's props that he hides his imperialism behind.

4. They Were "Martyred" By Americans Presumably In Battle
The sunnis were already fighting Americans, and the insurgency was at its infancy.

The festering sore that is Saddam's kangaroo trial has been going on for more than a year and have been administered by Shiites. They had a lot of time to be resentful and prepare to take it out on those who imposed a humiliating death on him.

5. I agree, although the line between "business as usual" and a
bloodbath in Iraq is pretty blurry...

6. This Wasn't How Rove Scripted This...
When the sentencing was scheduled it was before the Foley scandal had blow open and the GOOP game plan was to create fear, fear, fear...try to play the Iraq=Terror=9/11 game again...and they almost got away with it.

Instead of this being a "big triumph" like when they pulled out of his hidey hole or the goofy purple finger election, the "conventional wisdom" was Boosh could catch a couple point bounce and this would rise all Repugnican ships. That was until all the corruption finally came home to roost and now people will wake up on Election Day and see Saddam's picture and probably an article about the latest dead or major riots in Iraq...either way not what this regime wants on people's minds as they cast a vote.

8. Saddam's capture never has had the impact they wanted
they imagine themselves as action figures in a Christian comic book. It's impossible for Americans to see the world through Bush's warped lens. He really believes some of the stuff that Cheney and Rove wrote for him. The rest are just vultures waiting for Americans to fall so they can feed off of the carion.
