News DUMP: NEY Resigns!!
Ney Says He’ll Resign From House
By Martin Kady II, CQ Staff

Rep. Bob Ney, facing certain expulsion from the House after being convicted of two felonies in relation to the Jack Abramoff scandal, said on Friday he will resign by the end of the day.

Ney, who pleaded guilty Oct. 13 to making false statements and conspiracy to commit fraud, is the first member of Congress to be convicted as part of the wide-ranging Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal.

Ney, in a call to Congressional Quarterly, said “I’ll be resigning today, approximately 4 or 4:30 p.m. I’ll be submitting my letter to the Speaker of the House.”

25. Why today?
Well, he did just pick up his last $13,000 congressional paycheck. But I'm sure the timing is a mere coincidence.

16. Look at the damage he's done - we have fraudulent elections and
in large part due to thiefs like Ney.

Bob Ney has done everything he could to dismantle our power. Our vote is our power and he has done everything he could to eliminate that power.

God only knows what else he has done using our money and our Congressional seat.

Love that sound of Bushite democracy-killers hitting bottom! But how about the Bushite democracy-killing legislation that they engineered?

Bob Ney was a major architect of the electronic voting coup--along with Tom Delay and Christopher Dodd--by which Bushite corporations gained direct control over our election results, using TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code, with virtually no audit/recount controls. HAVA was passing over Ney's desk at the same time as the Abramoff bribes--and has been far, far more damaging to our democracy. Nearly killed it, in fact.

Time to start connecting some dots--and start cleansing our government not just of the bad actors, but also of the bad actors' evil deeds!

Repeal HAVA *NOW*! And while we're at it, get our money back ($3.9 billion to Diebold, ES&S and brethren!**).

Same with Iraq. I think the focus should be RECOVERY of our money. Notice that in California, they put Schwarzenegger in to stop any talk or effort as to getting back the $9 billion that Enron stole from the state (California's entire budget surplus, which Davis had built up). The Dark Lords don't mind sacrificing expendable minions like Kenneth Lay and Bob Ney, to make it seem like justice is being served. While they pocket all the billions stolen, and go for more.

"Follow the money"--and get the money BACK--from all these individual criminals, and criminal corporations. I think we need to dismantle some of these corporations, and seize their assets for the common good. I don't think the new Dem Congress will do that--our party leadership is much too compromised by the Corporate Rulers. But it's something we should DEMAND--to start pulling the political dialogue back into the true center of reality and common sense--and something to work for, in the future. We may think that such a demand is unrealistic, given the corporate control over our government. But if demands are just and reasonable, there is no reason not to state them, and to make THEM the thing that has to be discussed, rather than all the crap that IS discussed. Justice for Halliburton is dismantling Halliburton, extracting our stolen billions from its assets--and denying Cheney his war-padded pension. THAT would be true justice. Putting some people in jail--satisfying as that may be--is only partial justice, and we know that the big players will escape. How to punish them? Dry up as much of their dirty money as possible--and retrieve as much of it as we can. This will also hamper their ability to commit further crimes. (I am very worried about this Bush Cartel land purchase in Paraguay, and what they may be planning by way of killing peasants and leftists, and destroying South American democracies--using funds direct from our coffers--for instance, $600 million to Columbia's rightwing military this year alone, and the money they used to build a military base/airport in Paraguay--plus billions and billions stolen from our treasury and probably stashed in the Cayman islands and elsewhere. We may not be able to make a dent in it, but every dollar retrieved will be one less dollar in the world serving the forces of darkness.)

-----------------------

**(Actually, I don't think we can get HAVA repealed--nor get our money back--with this particular Dem Congress. Too much of that money has benefited both Dem and Repub election officials and legislators, and all are still too beholden to Diebold, ES&S et al. I think we need to pursue a backdoor strategy, at the local level, to achieve transparent, verifiable elections, and it is this: Organize the huge movement of Absentee Ballot voters--right now, an unorganized, individual effort to get around the rigged electronics (but it's very big--AB voting is up to 50% and 60% of the vote in some places), in order to put great pressure on LOCAL election officials, to, a) HAND-COUNT Absentee Ballot votes, and b) post results BEFORE any electronics are involved. In this way, we will create a PAPER BALLOT SYSTEM BY DEFAULT. If we can get honest counts of the AB votes, nobody will vote on the rigged machines any more--everybody will vote by AB. And in this way, we can circumvent the corruption of our election officials with these big e-voting contracts. They won't have to dump the machines--something that it will be very hard to get them to do--but the machines will fall into disuse, and will get dumped by attrition. It's a way for officials who have been hoodwinked to save face; and a way to pressure the really bad and corrupt officials out (--the AB counting "test"--are they handling and counting these votes PROPERLY?). National exposure of Diebold corruption and lies will help. But it is NOT a STRATEGY for getting rid of the machines. ES&S (equally bad) will pick up the slack, or any number of other possible Corporate entities--in order to maintain the TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming part of the e-voting scam--the most important element of control. What we need is an EFFECTIVE strategy for restoring hand-counted paper ballots, clean of any secret electronics. And I think this backdoor strategy, re: Absentee Ballots, is the way to get there, and will get us there quicker. We cannot wait for the Dem Party leadership to clean house on this matter. We may be waiting forever if we do.)

----

Edit to correct $600,000 to $600 million, the correct figure (for Plan Columbia, this year)--and the total is over $1 billion.

22. ...and about recovering money in Iraq
they planned ahead and made certain the legal structures were such that no one could ever be held accountable. That was the main purpose of the CPA. That and there are going to be very few fingerprints. All you can really point to is the bloated accounts of the cronies whose businesses were set up in anticipation of this heist.

23. Delay, Do Little, Ney and No(e). Classic do-nothing GOP Congress
has been surpassed in their uselessness and obstructionism to truth, justice and open bipartisan democracy only by their penchant for greed and corruption (to paraphrase a riff Josh Marshall once did at TPM ).

Celebrate! Good-bye, Bobby. It's great to see you go. Bye-bye, Bobby. What took you so long?

This one is for Kevin H., a young friend who Ney eviscerated in the newspaper when Kevin dared to disagree with him.
Good-bye, you crooked lying windbag.

27. Good riddance...
and his seat is about to go Dem this year. The Repugs will be trying to target that seat in 2 years but Zach Space is a lot like Jim Webb - the ideal Democrat in my opinion, somebody who is simultaneously a Blue Dog and an economic Progressive and can hold the seat once he wins it, even in a conservative district. The same goes for many of the other seats we are likely to pick up because of the Repug scandals, including TX-22 (Lampson), FL-16 (Mahoney), and NY-26 (Davis). I predict all four of these seats turn Dem and stay Dem - and bring a lot of disaffected voters back home to the Democratic Party. The Republican rogues' gallery and scandals have made sure of this and when people see that all the Repug propoganda about Dems simply isn't true, a lot of working class voters will come home to our big tent. 2006 is truly the year when we turn things around for the long term. The Repug scandals were inevitable because their entire strategy has been one of dishonesty, smear jobs, and fomenting hate while their politicians engage in sleazy backroom deals and corruption.

So, good riddance to Ney, DeLay, Allen, Renzi, Reynolds, Foley, Cunningham, Santorum, DeWine, and the other sleazebags. Let's get busy this weekend and make sure we have a Democratic sweep!!! :bounce:
