How...terrible...?

Or good.

As Vote Nears, Stances on War Set Off Sparks
By ADAM NAGOURNEY and JIM RUTENBERG

In the process of attacking Senator John Kerry over remarks about Iraq, President Bush brought renewed attention to the war.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/01/us/politics/01elect.html?hp&ex=1162443600&en=9c2f88b07e6379a6&ei=5094&partner=homepage

(snip)

In the process, Mr. Bush brought renewed attention to the war in Iraq, which he defended with vigor while campaigning in Georgia, at the very moment that a number of Republican Congressional candidates, following the advice of party strategists, were stepping up their efforts to distance themselves from the White House on the war as the campaign enters its final days.

So.

1. But, Will didn't you know? It was a Rovian plot to de-focus DUers on the upcoming election.

3. I suspect Repub leaders will demand an apology from Kerry and then...
drop the matter like a hot potato. This is not an issue they want to discuss. It is a big loser for them and they know it. Tony Snow was on C-SPAN this morning and showed his cards. He said Kerry should apologize and move on. No, he shouldn't.

4. Gawd Will I hope so.
Between the story in the NYTimes on Monday about the US letting untraceable weapons get 'lost' in Iraq to the devastating chart in today's paper that shows the US Central Command believes Iraq is sliding into chaos, we need to focus on this war.

6. Every Time The Focus Is On Iraq, They Lose Points
Booosh's approval didn't get under 40% in a vacuum...it's been this ugly war that's done it, and every time they send this asshat out to "rev up the morale", his ratings go down further.

Remember, this regime wants people to vote on the "War on Terror" (tm), not on Iraq.

This place has the worst poker players...can't see the bluff and are ready to fold cards against someone with a pair of deuces.

If anything, Senator Kerry did us a favor...gone are the psychobabble issues and now puts this election as a mandate on this regime.

While Kerry isn't running for anything...and how can you connect Kerry to another candidate? That's not the same for booosh...he's running for his life and legacy.

8. I don't see that - it seems it's all about what he really meant.
All the coverage I've seen is superficial - what he said, what *said, what did he really mean, should he apologize. It'd be better if he took the opportunity to nail home points about why Bush is stupid, like he didn't take time to evaluate Saddam's agreement to US terms, etc. Frankly, I like Kerry but he could be using his new front and center opportunity to hit * harder. Instead, * is gleeful to have the opportunity to slam Dems down on being unpatriotic.

And has anyone noticed that the Iraq debacle is being pounded in the news this morning? Maybe the 'badly told joke' nudged the news people from petty political minutia to what's really important.

15. I know - Bayh Buchanan went from attacking Kerry on CNN to
desperately trying to defend Bush and his Iraq war within 2 minutes yesterday.

It was much better than discussing the evil Dem plan to raise taxes.

I have enjoyed this.

Let's focus on the candidates and their races. Focus on GOP corruption. Talking about Iraq is only going to make the media talk about Kerry.

18. according to the bushies
it's no longer "stay the course", the new "echo chamber" message is "Complete the Mission" and/or varations of "victory in Iraq"

Questions

regarding Stay the Course: what was the course? and why are we no longer on that course? Did we change course, or have gone off course? Was there any course to not be on in the first place?

regarding Complete the Mission: What's the mission? Completing a mission is not a plan, it's goal. It signifies the ending of something - hence the word COMPLETE.

regarding "Victory in Iraq": Define victory. What are the parameters by which we will be able to declare we were victorious?

KErry's remark was not out of line in the context of highlighting the opportunities that people have...in the GOP world dying in a war is a valid career move.

22. further a day after, repug know kerry meant bush and all political
to draw away from how lousy republicans are doing. and media using to help out republicans. a day after all this to do, it is now being made clear that this is a joke kerry often uses and everyone knows kerry wasnt talking about troops.

how people must truly be offended to be emotionally yanked around by this bullshit. first being told kerry insulted troops and feeling an outrage to only find out that is not true

this is going to back fire big on repugs showing them for the lying sniffling little twirps they are

23. Everyone *was* talking about Iraq
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 10:03 AM by Neecy
Republicans may have been trying their normal distract, smear and frighten routine - Pelosi, taxes, terrorists and whatnot - but all the pathetic bleating in the world couldn't disguise the October death toll. THAT is the crux of this issue, not what Kerry said, or the apologies that the wingnuts are demanding. This war is killing our children, and around here THAT is what people WERE talking about. Now it's this ridiculous spat that really isn't even about the failed murderous policy in Iraq - it's a he said, she said. Whatever.
