Bob Corker's daughter
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 11:37 AM by SouthernBelle82
First of all I know some here at DU have a problem with talking about candidates families. I totally and completely understand where you are coming from. I would be on the same side as well but now here in Chattanooga there is a new ad with Corker's daughters and his wife in the ad talking about how great a father he is and how he's always there and funny and all this other stuff about him. So once she started campaigning for her father (which is what she is doing with this ad) she is fair game. She's making a political statement and endorsing what he believes in with his campaign and that includes being anti-gay. I have no idea when the event of her kissing another girl happened but the fact remains she too is a hypocrite. Sorry but people of Chattanooga and all over Tennessee deserve to know what a hypocrite the Corker's are. Also at the Rawstory link about the story someone posted that they had heard Corker's wife has a personal chef who is a gay woman and married to her partner. So this family is full of hypocrites.

5. This is close to war...They are calling us traitors and treasonous
You want to play nice with them? I say go for the throat. We are in this to save America and if it means exposing a tiny bit of their hypocrisy then so be it. It isn't as if we just made stuff up like they do..

7. I guess we will have to disagree.
As far as I can tell this girl is guilty of none of these things.

Yes, I too am tired of being called a traitor, etc.
But I am not ready to impale the innocent just yet. ;)

She is because she is campaigning for her father. She is endorsing war, killing of innocent people, bigotry, racism, sexism. She doesn't care about me so why should I her?

26. YOU said she said he's a great Dad in the ad
He probably is a great Dad to her. Appearing in an add isn't campaigning nor endorsing anything. Giving campaign speeches is. She's an EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD KID. Leave her the hell alone. I said that about the Bush twins, too.

Julia Corker isn't Mary Cheney, who is a public figure and a hypocrite.

You know, it really is the October Follies in here today, especially in regards to Julia Corker.

33. I know lots of great dads who raise their daughters to post pics like
this on the internet:

I was all for leaving the kid alone till I saw this pic supposedly taken at a high school party and happily posted on the net. I also didn't know the kid was stumping for her father. I don't give a shit who she wants to kiss but I don't know too many "great dads" who allow their daughters to dance in their panties at a high school party then post pics of it on the net.

34. Good grief, what a post
So, she should be attacked because she's an 18-year-old who's gotten drunk and done some stupid things, and made an ad for her Dad saying he's a great Dad -- yeah, that';s "stumping" for him. What an over-the-top and judgmental post. I thank the gods I'm not judged for what I did at that age, or for stuff my relatives have done and said.

She is a PRIVATE FIGURE, and a young kid.

This discussion is ludicrous, petty, and nasty.

No she should be attacked for being a hypocrite
and according to most right wingers a 16 year old page is a "grown-up" who was clever enough to set up a Congressman. So why should this 18 year old get away with claiming great family values when she really has no common sense or self-respect. She actually thought this picture belonged on the internet. I've been drunk and done stupid things but I sure wasn't dumb enough to advertise them to the world.

If she is such a PRIVATE FIGURE then why is she posting this shit on the internet. It may be petty and nasty but it's not ludicrous. ;)

42. I may be extremely cynical, but a good number of Repub women are hypocrites
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 04:04 PM by Selatius
They all talk a good game about being moral Christians here in Mississippi, and the preachers here have sway over the population here, but the fact of the matter is these women are just like any other women with a sex drive. The only difference is that liberal women confront the issue of sexuality and don't think sex is inherently immoral or sinful outside of marriage.

With Repub women, however, they'll publicly state it's all wrong and immoral, but we all know what the teen pregnancy statistics say about good ole Mississippi. People are so tight-assed about sex in Mississippi they can't even put together a functioning sex education program, and they have the gall to condemn liberal states like Massachusetts that actually has a lower divorce rate and a lower teen pregnancy rate than Mississippi.

Didn't he also vote for torture and for warrantless wiretapping? Isn't he against gay marriage? So aren't those supporting him also supporting the same things he does? I really don't think there is a moral high ground regarding these candidates and those issues.

I don't think so. When she is endorsing a candidate who is anti-gay and against choices for OUR personal lives why the hell should I? She is helping to campaign for him. What about that don't you get? When she can butt out of others personal lives and stop supporting bigotry than perhaps.

Well, all right then.
OK, so what do you want to do?

Make fun of her for kissing a girl?

Go ahead and crucify her then.

Except for this. Do you really have a problem with girls kissing girls or
are you just willing to betray your own beliefs for political gain.
Which is it?

Note: Please don't take offense at this. I am just trying to sort through things.

Why don't you go back in time and try to live under Bob Corker?

21. If what they advocate is so reprehensible, why not confront them. . .
on the issues, and leave them to wallow in the dirt?

But you're gonna do whatcha gonna do, so why waste time debating it with someone such as I, who merely disagrees with your tactics and not your goal? Or does resorting to their tactics stick in your craw so much you have to argue twice as hard to convince yourself of the rightness -- not of your goal, but of your path.

31. I don't think this thread has anything to do with her right to kiss another woman
I think this thread has to do about the hypocrisy of a senator telling us who we can and cannot marry while his daughter is going around doing the exact thing that he is repressing.

It's called Hypocrisy and can we trust someone to a political office to make a decision for the rest of the country when his own family goes against that very decision.

13. I think this will backfire if Ford's camp decides to attack with it.
Talking to friends in TN, he tell me a lot of ppl are turn off by attack ads/remarks that have nothing to do with the opponents position on issues. Also Ford says he wants to focus on the issue and leave the other stuff out of the race. I know Corker camp went after Ford's brother and father, but I think if Ford camp goes after Corker's daughter just for kissing another girl at a party at this stage of the election, it will backfire just like Allen's recent book attack on Webb.

16. I do agree there
My mother doesn't like the republicans but she also doesn't like the attack ads. I'm glad that Ford isn't talking about it but we can as voters and just casually bring it up to people. I like though how Ford has been staying on the issues. I just was saying that Corker's daughter has endorsed and done campaigning for her father so she is now a part of the campaign in that regard.

If ford comes out with this information. If someone can get it to the media and let them expose it then it might be different.

Ford would come across as a hypocrite because he was critical of Corker attacking his family.

And what she does is her business. The nastiness on both sides in these races is really getting redundant, and I really hope this doesn't go any further. I don't like either one of them, but perhaps Ford should have also thought of the fallout from going to those parties and known that information was going to be used against him. Again, my condolences to Tennessee for not even having a decent choice in this election and getting nothing but mudslinging. And gee, I didn't know that just kissing someone of the same sex made you gay. And if she is, so what? It's HER business. And I thought that ignorance was only relegated to one party.

41. Principled offense is the way. Ford should politely decline to answer
any question about the issue and absolutely NOT bring it up. If he does this, he stays clean and it's only the lazy, corrupt press making it an issue.

Or, why don't we open ALL of our potentially embarrassing moments in college to public scrutiny?

Uh, no thank you.

Leave her out of it--I don't care what our motivations are.

Anyone who thinks a Dem's kid has never had, isn't having, or will never have a moment they might later regret posted on the nternets is kidding themselves.

And if we're truly in the fight for the life of one of the greatest countries in the world, pointing and shrieking about a girl on the Internet is a pathetic way to fight it.
