"Sonny, you are in way over your head. Chill before you really lose ...
... something important."

That was the message I received on April 13, 2006, after Halliburton executives found out I was spending time on Capitol Hill. I immediately contacted my DOJ contacts. I got back this response:

91. How can you fight if you can't recognise a warning?

Song Of Choice

Early every year the seeds are growing
Unseen, unheard they lie beneath the ground
Would you know before their leaves are showing
That with weeds all your garden will abound?

If you close your eyes, stop your ears
Shut your mouth then how can you know ?
For seeds you cannot hear may not be there
Seeds you cannot see may never grow

In January you've still got the choice
You can cut the weeds before they start to bud
If you leave them to grow high they'll silence your voice
And in December you may pay with your blood

So close your eyes, stop your ears,
Shut your mouth and take it slow
Let others take the lead and you bring up the rear
And later you can say you didn't know

Every day another vulture takes flight
There's another danger born every morning
In the darkness of your blindness the beast will learn to bite
How can you fight if you can't recognise a warning?

Today you may earn a living wage
Tomorrow you may be on the dole
Though there's millions going hungry you needn't disengage
For it's them, not you, that's fallen in the hole

It's alright for you if you run with the pack
It's alright if you agree with all they do
If fascism is slowly climbing back
It's not here yet so what's it got to do with you?

The weeds are all around us and they're growing
It'll soon be too late for the knife
If you leave them on the wind that around the world is blowing
You may pay for your silence with your life

So close your eyes, stop your ears,
Shut your mouth and never dare
And if it happens here they'll never come for you
Because they'll know you really didn't care

Peggy Seeger

Do yourself a favor.

Find a county-by-county map of the vote in 2004.

Find the Beltway, which encircles DC. That "blue bubble" represents all the career civil servants who know that Bush is a crook - and who are quietly working to out the truth.

Dear Rep. Lowey,

Thank you for your steadfast support of working families in New York. We are fortunate to have you working for us.

I am writing to ask you to look into an issue.

Please investigate the allegations of Halliburton bribes paid to Nigerian officials as recently uncovered by David Smith. Halliburton has attempted to derail government investigations, and has even enlisted the help of the vice president.

This needs to be uncovered before the election. Please send this to your appropriate committees.

Thank you,
(me)

You are a true American. Doing what's right even when it impacts you personally. That takes guts, and bravery.

Stay safe! Sending good thoughts your way!

47. Many Thanks for the Good Thoughts
"You are a true American."

You know, those Civitans are real subversives! Teach a child at an early age that good citizenship matters, and it just might "take".

"Doing what's right even when it impacts you personally. That takes guts, and bravery."

Kids are like little computers. Program them with "good code," and they'll obey their programming. I was extremely fortunate. I had parents and an extended family who - though dirt poor - had a rich oral tradition, and placed emphasis on education.

And I will never, ever be able to repay the debt I owe the Raleigh County School system: http://boe.rale.k12.wv.us /

"Watch yourself, these people are dangerous."

So is the evidence against them.

"Especially when they're cornered, and it sounds like they are."

The question remaining is whether they salvage the last shred of dignity they have left, or whether they try to lash out.

"I'll be watching for news."

I'll be trying hard not to make it.

: )

"Stay safe! Sending good thoughts your way!"

Those are greatly and warmly appreciated.

Most southerners are populists. They're socially conservative, but they also root for the underdog.

Like Sanders.

55. April 4, 2006 Was a Red Letter Day...
... looking back through the records:

There was quite a bit of House and Senate activity on one of my websites on April 4th. This was the day that one of the MC's staff put me in a room, with high-speed Internet access, and had me pull over redundant copies of data.

The IP addresses:

143.231.X.X (house.gov)

156.33.X.X (senate.gov)

156.33.X.X (senate.gov)

156.33.X.X (senate.gov)

Since that time, there has been a lot of various ".gov" traffic.

... I plan to.

I like my chances in front of Congress better than I like Dick's, in any event.

P.S. Unlike Dick, I won't need to invoke the Fifth, either.

70. Damn, Batman
that's scary looking.

I think I would have been offended by the "Sonny", though, and pissed off even more.

Anyway, "Sonny", stay safe - your timing couldn't have been better - I hope to see more and more about it this week.

... Batman has many friends, including in law enforcement.

When BushCo. started issuing threats, they simply showed their desperation.

Here's to you ... evidently you've already got "something important", which they lost a long time ago.

... David and other whistleblowers headed to the polls today, and voted to put the gavels in the hands of those who not only listened to their stories - but who can now make sure all of America comes to know about them, too.
