"You're paranoid." "Chicken Little." "Relax."
IMO it's time we took a realistic view of the situation--and noted that whether he chooses to use them or not, the President has all the tools in his toolbox to seize complete power. And the perfect opportunity is at hand.

Scenario: Republicans win both houses of Congress in landslide victories despite exit polling which shows the results can't be authentic. Massive demonstrations ensue, which are quelled by the National Guard and this new, conveniently-enacted law:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

It so happens that every coup begins with a sudden, rash, incredible act which only the "paranoid" foresaw. So because I'm paranoid (and I would like to try to maintain private communication) I'm installing Skype and PGP on my computer. Re-establishing my friends network. And because the sky is falling (and I believe my family and democracy are worth defending) I'm buying a gun and survival supplies.

And should all those irrational people who don't agree with me be vindicated, I'll be well-stocked for the big SoCal earthquake everyone says is coming.

"Paranoid". "Chicken Little". That's me.

1. Better to be paranoid and prepared
than caught by surprise. Do you (or anyone else) know whether bank accounts would be frozen if martial law is implemented?

7. Good question
and it is probably wise to assume that anything could happen, especially if you're labeled an "insurgent".

5. Well:
Skype is software for making free "telephone calls" between computers, over the Internet, anywhere in the world. Works nicely.

PGP stands for "Pretty Good Privacy" is a series of tools for encrypting email (perhaps other data) so that unathorized folks can't see it.

6. Skype is using your computer as a telephone
and is securely encrypted (though some have suggested that the government has a back door key to intercept Skype communications, there is no evidence to support it). It's free.

PGP (once known as "Pretty Good Privacy") is a way to encrypt email. It costs $99.

13. Skype and PGP
Skype is a voice over IP application that allows you to skip the whole TelCo thing.
PGP stands for pretty good privacy, which is an encryption application, and it is more than pretty good.

8. Your "election fraud" scenario is the most likely one.
Either that or a pandemic.

I doubt they'll do a false flag nuke, but then again, anything is possible.

But the election fraud scenerio seems to fit the timing just right. They saw what happened in Mexico this year and want to get ready for it.

9. Earlier this week
I cleaned all my guns, got more powder, patches, caps, and have been making bullets.
BTW, for all their inconvenience to load and clean, black powder weapons are not
registered, and make one scary flash, particularly at night. If you are only going to own one,
I recommend a .44 1858 remington pistol copy with a longish barrel. Cabela's has them cheap if you don't mind a brass frame.

If you look, you can find BP derringers for under 100 bucks new. Of course, then you have to buy ammo.

I recommend Hogdon's triple 7 powder, as it cleans with plain water and soft round balls,
as they are surprizingly accurate and don't ricochet as much as harder bullets. Except for the conicals I use in the .50 buffalo
rifle, which are a bit tricky to start, but hit like a mack truck.

Now mind you, they won't win a fire fight against a ak47, but in a pinch if you are clever they will get you a gun that will.

10. benburch once posted a thread like this
and recommended a shotgun for survival purposes. Making my own ammo is beyond me, although who knows. That knowledge could come in handy.

My only non b/p guns are a 12ga and a .22 rifle.

Abu Ghraib scandal, low approval polls, but then he miraculously 'won.' At the very least, something similar will happen again.
