I woke up this morning with a screaming migraine. It's now worse.
I forced myself out of bed (I'm canvassing for McCaskill this afternoon) and flipped on the local news. Scenes of celebration in St. Louis.
I made coffee and as I trudged back into the living room I saw a military crowd holding little flags. A couple of them waved their flags. As I was putting my coffee down I heard a voice say, "Thank you for serving. Your service will be something you'll be proud of for the rest of your life." I looked up. It was Whiteman Air Force base. The speaker was Dick Cheney.
Despite all of the indignities of the past six years, I've not yet gotten to the breaking point - for some reason, this morning did it. The coward Dick Cheney, who had 'other priorities' during Vietnam during a draft, dared say this to people who volunteered for service. Where do they get balls like this? Why do they get away with it?
My late father was an Air Force officer. He WAS proud for serving his country and didn't need a coward to congratulate him for it.
We need to bring a little humility to these strutters. We need to investigate their lies, their war profiteering friends, and we need to check their warlike ambitions at the door before they attack another country. We need to stop this insanity and the only method we have is to make damn sure we elect Democrats in friggin' DROVES in this election. I'm going to see that smug, bastardly face of Cheney all weekend and it's going to motivate me. Enough is enough.
