"Negative" beats "Positive" ?
Just a couple of weeks ago, Harold Ford was up by 2-5 points in most of the polls in the TN Senate race. Then the negative ads started running. Now, they are calling it a "deadheat". Basically, Ford has lost some ground to these "negative" ads. Do negative ads always beat positive ads? Has there been a time where they have backfired on the person or Party running the ads?

A basic reality is that Repubs are better than Democrats at running "negative" personal attack ads. Democrats attempt to run them but they never feel natural. They are mostly reactionary. It's the nature of the Parties.

1. It is always easier to "go negative"....
...because it goes back to the fight or flight portion of the reptilian brain. Positive thought uses several magnitudes of higher brain functions and is more difficult. That's why the athlete is valued over the scientist and the criminal is more respected than the statesman.

2. I've seen research that shows
that negative ads generally are more effective at changing opinion in the direction of the ad, although people also say they don't approve of them.

3. Sadly ...
reality is more pessimistic than optimistic when people are nurtured to believe that the ends justify the means.

4. Zogby this AM--Corker is now ahead
Republicans have only one goal--Win, Win , Win.
They always move into cultural attacks at
the end, playing on Race and or Sex depending
on which is appropriate in the particular
race. Tennessee Race. Look at Va, It is Sex.
This is how Bush and Republicans continue
to win.

Zogby was on MSNBC. "Republicans appear to
have bottomed out and just may be starting
a trend upward. HE CITED Montana race. Burns
is moving up, for example as well as Corker
now up in Tenn.
