C&L: Letterman vs. O’Reilly…Round Two…Fight! (Video)
David Letterman didn't try to hide the fact last night that he just plain doesn't like Bill O'Reilly. He wasted no time bashing FOX News and doing what few people can do — ridiculing O'Reillys ratings (Letterman's audience is more than 2x as large .) While sparring over Iraq, Letterman interrupted the giant talking head saying he "doesn't care" what Bill has to say. When Bill O, in typical FAUX form, tried to suggest that Dave believes "Bush is an evil liar" and that "America is a bad country" Letterman comes back with the line of the month:

"You're trying to put words in my mouth just the way you put artificial facts in your head."

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/10/27/letterman-vs-o... /

Bill: Do you want the USA to win? It's an easy question.

Dave: It's not easy because I'm thoughtful.

(Letterman was unrelenting throughout.)

2. And Billy kept turning to the audience, "This is fake- we're friends"
"we bowl together".
Like he was DESPERATE to makeTELL everyone to think
that Dave ripping him a new one was just make-believe.

Frickin PATHETIC.

3. "Do you know what Ansar al Islam is? No, you don't. Well, "
God, as soon as he said "Ansar" I was thinking, "here we go with this lie again".

They were outside Hussein's realm of influence. They were in Kurdish territory- people who are supposed to be bosom buddies now. Also, their connections were in Afghanistan, IIRC- in the country Bush has decided to ignore.

6. Exactly. It's an upside down reality.
Terror was smoldering at 9-11, now it IS white hot. Dave's right.
O'Liarly bullied the audience too. Then when he was backed down by Dave he got uncomfortable and like an immature teen went for the PROP distraction. LOL, what a punkass.

Dave didn't go into all the experts Republicans ignored trying to warn of airplane attacks and then about no WMD in Iraq. So much crap slid through the sewer pipe yet again. But it was nice to see the blowhard challenged instead of softballed.

Love that Dave

Falafel can't match wits wth the Dave, so why even try? Guy! I'm almost embarrassed for the guy, bleeding heart liberal that I am.

8. Dave's no huge liberal... but he's honest
David Letterman is a genuine, honest, honorable person. Is that too much to ask for, in our leaders even?

9. Dave was poorly equipped to deal with Bill.
If Dave knew his facts, he would've beaten Bill over the head over Ansar Al-Islam. Northern Iraq was outside the control of Saddam. It was under the No-Fly Zones, so even if Saddam didn't approve of Islamic fundamentalists operating in his country, he couldn't do anything about it without being blown to bits by US warplanes whenever he walked into those No-Fly Zones to root them out.

10. Dave Was More Than Well Equipped
He may not have had every fact about pre-war Iraq on hand, but he had a good handle on everything else. He refused to be drawn into false dichotomies; he ignored jingo and even without detailed data, he made Orally look like the ill-informed, simplistic ass he is and Letterman did it pretty effortlessly.

11. I have been loving Dave for over twenty-five years now.
Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 05:06 AM by StrictlyRockers
Dave has been railing people for so long, he has it down to a science. He has been my favorite TV personality since I was a teenager. He is about as real as it gets.

Leno? Puh-leeze. You don't spend that much time in Hollywood without becoming Mr. Slicko. Dave has ALWAYS been my guy...even over Carson. Dave's sensibilities are closer to my generation. We just loved this guy in college. Carson was a master, but he was a generation removed. Dave I totally got from when I first watched him. That's why tonight's show was so unbelievably fun for me. When Dave is at is best, there is just no stopping him. He is a master of the verbal thrust and parry.

To see him using his skills to speak for what is right, at a time when the country needs it more than ever...it WARMS MY SOUL. The country needs this. Dave is not afraid to make fun of pompous asses. In fact, it is sort of his forte. It is why I watch him. Cher called him an asshole to his face, on his show. And that is sort of right. He is the perfect guy to take on O'Mealy.

O'Mealy is not afraid to be an asshole to make his point, right? No. Dave is not afraid to be an asshole to make his point. Especially when he knows he is right. O'Mealy doesn't have a leg to stand on. It was evident. He was cornered. His bluster and bravado are a "goof", to use Dave's words. It's an obvious sham, a con, a way to get people to watch him. It is entertainment, not news. It's a farcical show that no reasonable thinking person could ever take seriously. Dave said this and I WAS SO HAPPY to hear him call O'Mealy on his BS. Faux noose is a freaking circus for the masses. They can't be serious.

Dave tore him a new one time and time again. O'Mealy knew it was coming, and to his credit he sat and took it. At one point he did threaten to walk off, actually. But he is not totally insane. He knows his act is wearing thin. He did the very best he could to humanize himself and portray himself as Dave's friend. Nice try, bub. Dave obviously don't like you much, and he thinks you are totally full of crap...ok, so maybe he thought you were just 60% full of crap as he said to you on his show the last time you came on, but now, he obiously has reached the conclusion, like the rest of us, that YOU ARE TOTALLY AND 100% COMPLETELY FULL OF CRAP!

Some of the lines he used as zingers were PRICELESS! The whole thing was great entertainment. Dave is taller than O'Mealy and bigger than O'Mealy. Dave is loved to the degree that O'Mealy is loathed by the general American public. O'Mealy had to sit and take it while Dave dished it out. It was so beautiful to watch that mealy little worm squirm. The little charlatan had nowhere to hide. He couldn't point his finger and raise his voice and bluster his way out of this one. OH NO! The Dave just wasn't having it! He boxed him into a corner and just kept clobbering him with haymaker after haymaker. I have to say I really enjoyed watching it. Kudos to you Dave!!! Heap o' blessings upon your head!

19. Dave is a comedian
not a talking head. Dave knows comedy. He doesn't NEED to know facts about al qaedqa in Iraq.

Bill, on the other hand, presents himself as an authority on al qaeda and Iraq. HE is the one who really looked stupid.

13. Although Letterman is right, he's uninformed about PNAC and the neocons
and the plans for Iraq way before 9/11

He allows O'Liar to get his talking points in without rebutting them with the facts....

14. It was yummy.
I saw it earlier and got another helping just now.

The wingnuts used blanket terminology and sound bites to lie us into this war and now that the citizenry sees through the bullshit, they tell us:

"The War on Terror is complicated. Too complicated for you, America. So, shut up and don't worry your empty little heads about things you don't understand."

Billy O'Reilly can invent all the artificial facts he wants. Nobody's buying it anymore. When David Letterman calls you a bonehead, to your face, on national television, you're a bonehead for the ages.

16. o'reilly says they are great friends meanwhile Dave's face gets more red
no smile and smoke coming out of his ears. However, I think Letterman should have put in a call to his buddy Al Franken to get some real info on the missing 9 billion and the political newgrad hacks they put in to build the nation of Iraq, oh and maybe the 600,000 civilians killed.

But, Dave isn't a pundit. He's a comedian who is very frustrated with the government and every day he is trying to help us in the election.

20. Thanks all for reporting on this
I had to turn off O'Lielly as soon as he opened his mouth last night. Sounds like it went well so now it seems safe to watch.

The thing about Dave is that even though he is in a hip business and has lived in New York for many years he is an Indy boy at heart and his values are solid middle America. He's not a Librul but I'll take a centrist over those RW nuts right about now.

21. Did anyone ever notice that whenever Bill-O starts preaching about something
he does this thing with his left hand where he makes a circle with his index finger and his thumb and splays the rest of the fingers out and he points at the person with it over and over? It looks like the "OK" sign. He always does that when he's on his soapbox reciting one of his patented lies, I mean talking points.

22. Most consequential was O'Lielly's statement, "Yes, it's all about OIL"
IMO. While waiting for "Bulls and Bears" to begin this morning, I saw much of the Letterman segment on reasons for staying in Iraq rebroadcast during the last few minutes of "Fox and Friends Saturday". The three hosts seemed to agree that the main reason for not leaving Iraq now was preventing "Irani jihadists" from controlling Iraq's oil. If O'Lielly and company repeat this theme enough during the week before the election, lots of sheeple eyes will be opened, and many more will resolve to break away from slavish devotion to Dubya.

For the first time, many Fox viewers now may say, "It's all about US soldiers' blood for OIL?" Why am I just hearing about this NOW?
