MLB and "God Bless America"
God, this is more of a rant, than a prayer, but treat it how you will, as I'm sure you will, according to your will.

Seriously, "God Bless America" does NOT need to be sung at the 7th inning stretch.

I do understand that MLB is a private entity (which enjoys a few posh monopoly protections) and can sing about what it wants...

But it's not even that good of a song! And now, they're only do the first part of the song. There is plenty of wonderful patriotic songs, such as "America the Beautiful," which mentions you. Your mention proves that my rant is not about worship during a serious sports event.

God bless my eardrums, please.

Can I get a "Take me out to the ballgame?"

Play ball!

Amen.

1. The Yankees use it to ice the other team when Ronan Tynan sings it
They are pretty smart.......you have to give it to them.

2. I've ranted on this a number of times...
I don't go to a ballgame for a church service...I go to get away from real life for a couple hours...at a ballgame no one asks you what political party you belong to, or what religion you are...

But when they play this I feel like I am being force fed the right wing version of patriotism...

Damnit..."Take me out to the Ballgame" is supposed to be the 7th inning stretch song...

3. Didn't this start after 9/11...
...and the orgy of mindless patriotism and flag-waving?

5. Yes
I could see it after 9/11, but it's been five years. Do we HAVE to keep going through this mindless exercise in false patriotism?

Oh, and Agent Mike, if you're reading this, I'm as much of a patriot as anybody else. I just like it to be from the heart, not by rote.

with that garbage. I love my country, proud to work for it. But my word, mindless never-ending patriotic drivel. SICK.

6. I am so totally sick...
Of hearing "God Bless America" in the 7th inning stretch!

I don't think God truly bless America for being munipulated by its' own commander-in-chief and commiting heinous war crimes in Iraq!

I'd probably get a chainsaw and chased that singer out of the ballpark. (sarcasm)

Enough already with this Right-Wing patroitic crap!

7. LOL! Do you know how many times I've posted the same thing?
Called strike three to end the top of the 7th, let us pray. :eyes:

They play the national anthem.

Enough.

Play ball!

Amen.

8. May God Provide You With Earplugs.

Oh Lord, dear Lord, please grant mb7588a the wisdom to walk down the path of drugstore alley, to acquire some earplugs. Please Lord, guide our dear mb7588a righteously, that their eardrums may be protected while others who don't mind the 7th inning stretch tradition can continue to do so, without harming their fellow human being.
