Dear SS Agents... Honestly, no one here wants to kill Bush...
Apparently, you have finally noticed our little neck of the woods here at DU. Please, let me be the first to welcome you to one of the most fascinating and diverse sites in the Internet (or "Internets" depending on who you listen to). While you are here doing your job and trolling around for "evil-doers" looking to harm our illustrious leader, I would hope you would take some time and get to know who we are and what we are talking about on this site. I believe that if you took the time to get to know us, you wouldn't be threatened at all and may in fact find that the same patriotic spirit that drove you to your job, drives a great many people to this site. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that maybe, if given half a chance, you may even find many kindred spirits that love this country just as much as you do.

But first let me address the unfortunate circumstance that brought you here. Honestly, no one here wants to kill Bush, Cheney or any of the evil cabal you currently call "boss". Not only are we pretty much against assassinating anyone, most of us realize that it would only hurt our collective cause. What good would killing Bush do, anyway? All we'd get is Cheney as President and what would change? If someone got them both, we'd get Hastert as President. Anyway you look at it, we lose.

All that would happen is Bush would become a martyr and he'd be treated as an American Hero. Trust me, no one... no one here at least... wants that to happen. It's unfortunate that some let their ignorant ranting get them in trouble but I would find it difficult to believe that they really considered that to be an option. Yes, many of us despise what he and his minions are doing to this country and many of us deplore the the crimes he's committed; not only against our Constitution but against humanity itself. But anyone with half a brain cell knows that the way to defeat him is not through harming his body but by exposing the truth behind who he is and what he's done. Our goal is to kill his message, to expose his lies and finally put an end to this ridiculous regime that threatens to drag our country down into hell.

That is what we believe we are doing here. This is how we've learned how to fight against this tyrant and you know... it seems to have had some effect. Over the past few years, we've done some marvelous things together here at DU. We've rooted out scores of hypocrites and the hypocrisies they've espoused... we've exposed the dangers of new laws that have gone unreported to the majority of America... we've helped expose the flagrant abuses in our election process... we've organized protests, inspired letter writing campaigns and even shut down Washington a few times with our phone calls... all the while building a community of like minded patriotic individuals whose only wish is to restore America to her rightful place in the world.

I know, deep down in places you're not allowed to even think about, you do not like the direction this country has taken. Can you honestly look at America and say, "This is who we are supposed to be. This is what our Founding Fathers intended." I can't say that but I can honestly say I love this country and it is without doubt a great and wonderful country. But America is not a great country because we have a wonderful Constitution and some lovely buildings... America is great because of the spirit of American's and our overwhelming devotion to what is right and just. You can shred our Constitution, you can piss on the Declaration of Independence, you can burn down our hallowed halls but you still won't destroy what is great and noble about this country. My friends, you have at your fingertips everything you need to know about what is great and noble about America.

We have a custom here on DU where we like to welcome all new members... (even if they are trolls or disruptors and we're timing how long they last). So I would like to welcome you to the DU and tell you that while there is nothing you or your boss's need fear from the people who come here... unless they fear disagreement. However, there is plenty here that can inspire and reinvigorate your patriotic spirit so please feel free to come here often (even if you don't agree with everything posted here). I know you are not allowed to become a real member and your personal thoughts are not allowed to be posted in an open forum but feel free to become a DU member in spirit and read these pages often. Take this opportunity to rediscover what is great about America and you may find you share our hope for a return to grander days. I urge you not to let the ignorant rantings of a few who let themselves be misguided by unwise passions negate the contributions of the whole and maybe something good can come out of this unfortunate incident... maybe you can find a community that loves this country and can, from time to time, even refresh your soul; as it does mine.

Peace to you and here's a toast to hopefully getting you a new boss through impeachment proceedings... :toast:

Sincerely,
Mike Lewis
Cleveland, Ohio

2. Isn't it ironic that the bloodthirsty clowns who want to do harm to our
poor country and to the citizens who really constitute the government of same are the ones with the bodyguards and guardians to ensure that nothing happens to them.

Gives the word ironic a whole added dimension if you ask me.

I've often thought of the Secret Services as the battered wives of our Constitution.

no matter how big an asshole the current one happens to be.

It must suck to be on Bush's SS detail. They know what he's really like. Ew... I bet it ain't pretty.

8. I agree... I would definitely like to see him in jail...
...and part of the sentence to include this stipulation: the only thing he's allowed to watch on TV is the faces of the dead who died because of his evil intentions. Death is too good for him... I want REPENTENCE!

9. Put very eloquently.
Thanks for this and I too send a hearty welcome. When Pickles was in town last month there were many SS,naturally. After our peace vigil in her honor we stopped at Wendy's for lunch. There in the dining room was one of her SS men. We all recognized each other and when he finished he come over and told us to have a nice afternoon. We wished him well. It was really pretty cool. Peace on earth, Kim

23. If someone made a death threat toward Clinton, I would want it...
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 05:21 PM by mikelewis
investigated. The SS is not protecting George... they're protecting the President. They don't care who sits in that office, they only care about their job... and rightly so. I have no problem with the investigation into legitimate death threats and especially when the threats concern GWB... the last thing in the world we want is for Bush to become a martyr at the hands of a "deranged liberal wacko". Because I can easily be classified as a "deranged liberal wacko", in a very real way, their attention to this issue protects many of us as well.

On the other hand, I wholeheartedly agree with the steps taken by the owners of DU. They're in a tough spot and they are acting wonderfully if not even bravely. It would have been easy for them to just hand over the information and not tell anyone but instead, they held to principle and protected our collective privacy. I don't always agree with everything they decide or say... but on this, they have earned a great deal respect. They did a very honorable thing by standing up to the Secret Service and I wholeheartedly support them.

The Secret Service contacted DU to get info about a couple posters (who were probably trolls or agents provacteurs, I'm guessing).

26. "who were probably trolls or agents provocateurs, I'm guessing"
We really don't know what was said or who said what so it's hard to even hazard a guess at the motivations of the posters. It's probably better not to jump to any conclusions and just simply take this as a lesson to be careful not to let our mouths run faster than our brains. Here on DU it's easy to feel insulated from the "outside" world and sometimes really good people say things they probably wouldn't have said if they had realized that there may be consequences for idle words. The danger posed in a hunt like this is that it can have a chilling effect on free speech but hopefully this investigation and the owners response will only have a chilling effect on ignorant and unlawful speech that can serve to get us all in trouble. Whoever posted the words in question and whatever their motivations were can't be known at this time but how we respond to it defines who we are as a law abiding community. Granted, some laws are made to be broken but that law is a good law and one echoed by our own forum rules. Hopefully, this example will sober up a few who at times let their passion get the best of them and keep others out of unnecessary trouble.

You said "kill Bush".

The keyword search program has targeted you. All your postings, your email, websites you visit, credit card usage, and library books borrowed are now being monitored and searched for further signs of your treason.

EDIT:

Double oops. Me too.

13. That's okay...
I don't go to the library and I don't have a credit card. The websites I go to, they already monitor and I honestly hope they read my postings. They can't take much away from me except my freedom and even that is eroding on a daily basis without their "targeting". As for treason... "If this be treason, make the most of it.”

25. I really don't think someone willing to kill the President
would be concerned with the negative consequences of the act. Assassination shows a detachment from acceptable political process, and accepted societal standards, that suggests a desperation that disregards consequences.

20. if someone were to kill bush, it would likely be one of his own.
personally, i don't think he'd be worth the trouble, the bullet, and certainly not worth the jail sentence. it's sort of like stepping around a bug, rather than stepping on it. you don't want to get the bottom of your shoe dirty.

also, i don't think it would be right to kill someone like him, no matter how much i detest that person.

on the other hand, would i love to spit in his face? would i love to pimp slap him? you better believe it, agent mike.

That's my suspicion.

28. But DU's not in hot water...
the "trolls" are. The Admins aren't breaking any law, they are just protecting our right to privacy under the law. It would take an incredibly stupid "troll" to think they can get DU in trouble for violating the law. DU is not, in anyway, responsible for you or anyone else breaking the law. They have taken on the responsibility of protecting our right to privacy but if the SS gets a court order to release the information, DU will release the information. DU isn't going to jail because some idiot said they wanted to kill the President (or whatever was said), DU is only protecting our right to privacy and sending a message to the SS that if they want info on us, they're going to have to get a court order.

29. a quick question while you're reading, Agent Mike . . .
just what in the hell were you guys thinking on 9/11? . . . you know, when the boss was in that elementary school and you and he learned that "America is under attack?" . . .

didn't it occur to you guys that maybe, just maybe, the prosident might be in danger? . . . and should maybe be hustled the hell out of there, like pronto? . . .

or did you guys KNOW that he was in no danger? . . . which would, of course, account for your inactivity . . .

and if that's the case, HOW did you know? . . . and WHO told you? . . .

just curious . . .

30. They would lionize him like no other President in history.
Right now Bush is a despised political albatross around the Republicans' necks. But if he were struck down by an assassin, they would paint him as America's Martyr on every cable network and declare that "we now must redouble our efforts in the war against terrorism." It would probably mean the final demolition of the 4th and 5th Amendments and other constitutional rights granted to the accused. After all, who could demean or criticize a dead guy? And so, the networks will say, who could possibly be so crass as to criticize his political party? Operation Infinite Reichstag. If the SS really wants to nab potential attackers, they should try bugging the Carlyle Group boardroom.
