VideoTheVote! [Video]
Video The Vote is a very exciting project recruiting people like us all over the country to videotape evidence of election problems November 7. Videos will be uploaded to the internet for instant access and use, and to spread the word quickly about what's going on around the country.

Check out their new video that explains!

there are plenty of need for volunteers that don't have a video cam such as helping organize videographers to go to the polls where problems are reported.

8. WHO
is www.VideoTheVote.org?

There are no names, no affiliations, and no address.

They are solitciting donations and soliciting people's information while providing ZERO about their organization. They claim to have "partner organizations", but none are identified.

You link to a "video that explains". It is a youtube video posted BradBlog, who gives no information at all about it. Nothing.

No way will I give this so-called organization my information, let alone send a donation with my credit card number. They don't even post where they are located to send a check.

WHO IS www.VideoTheVote.org???

10. Video the Vote brought to you by
the folks who made American Blackout.

A bit more info from their site:

Welcome to Video the Vote. Our goal is to protect the vote by being the eyes and ears where ballots are cast and counted on Election Day. We will document and report any irregularities that occur at polling places and boards of elections while they are happening, enabling the media and public to watch-dog the electoral process across our country.

In 2000 and 2004, we saw many problems at the polls: long lines, eligible voters turned away, voter intimidation, misallocation and malfunctioning of voting equipment. These stories were largely ignored as they took a back seat to the calling of races on Election Day. Then, days and weeks later, a more complete picture of voter disenfranchisement emerged—but it was too late. The elections were over and the media had moved on. Starting this election, citizen journalists—people like you and I—will document problems as they occur. We'll play them online, spread word through blogs and partner websites, doing our part to make sure the full story of our elections is told.

Like any grassroots effort, this campaign depends on the participation of as many people as possible. We hope you''ll sign up to Video the Vote and help ensure the full story gets told on Election Day and in the days afterward.

12. Disapproval?
No, just asking a legitimate question.

Who are the people I would be sending my money to? RNC? GOP? Rove? Freepland? Is it a ploy to suck up Dem $?? A scammer? A legitimate org? Geez.... if legit, why is it a fucking secret????!!!! Why no transparency?

Anybody can set up a website and solicit money (this site appears to have been set up a whole 3 weeks ago). It is sensible to ask who is soliciting one's donations.

So who is behind this site, who is the money going to, why do they avoid listing a mailing address, who are these claimed "partner organizations"?

I have not offered disapproval, I have asked questions. Do you know the answers? If so, why not post them, rather than snide remarks?

13. Perhaps a more logical (or grown-up) request
would be for them to add information related to their "partner organizations".

But so far, no further info. regarding who the "partner websites" or "partner organizations" are, nor any name or address behind the site/'organization'.

I will keep checking. If you find some information, I hope you'll give us a heads-up.

18. FWIW
IF someone doesn't feel comfortable because of the ambiguity of a website then by all means find out everything you can. As I understand it a request has been made on behalf of those thinking of registering but in need of additional information before signing up and I think that will quell most doubts about legitimacy.

Speaking only for myself-----

I know in my heart that Bradblog has tried to bring election issues to the center of the debate. All I did when I registered with the Video the vote was to give them my cell phone number, email and zip so I can help organize the videographers to the precincts where problems are being reported so they can go there and video it and upload it to the servers so the MSM will have reference when the cameras are rolling and not days or weeks after the election.

By the way they are also asking for people with knowledge about uploading video to servers in case someone is able to video tape election problems but not familiar with uploading and in need of techy advice via email or cell. If you can do that I am quite sure all the help would be appreciated.

It would seem to me that we would be at an advantage if we were up and running before the shit hits the fan.

26. Also should be monitoring who goes in and out of every polling place
where there are machines for 24 hours prior to the vote. Remeber Georgia where Diebold employees entered and "fixed" machine clocks with a patch that did not "fix" the clock.

33. whoa........in fla we can not take cameras into the election precincts...
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 12:05 AM by flyarm
better check in other states..

I know i was a poll watcher at large in 2004..no cameras were allowed in fla!!

unless they changed the law for this election...which i doubt..as the laws were lax for early vote in 2004..they have now made the laws very strict..

better check each state law before telling people to take camera's into polling precincts.

They have now posted information about WHO is behind this project and WHO the partner organizations are.

This info is very helpful.

35. It's my understanding that Video the Vote is paying attention
to the differences in laws in various states. That's one reason why it's a good idea to do the videotaping with this organized group, rather than on one's own.

Also, videoing will be outside in many places. Long lines, comments from people not allowed to vote, etc.

Police Complaint Center ..attempting to do any filming..or the League of Womens voters..to make sure you know what the laws are for this 2006 election..

in 2004 there were very few laws for early vote..but now new laws have been enacted...

In 2004 there were no cameras allowed even near the lines to vote..I know i had to call lawyers in when Rethugs were intimidating voters in lines by taking peoples pictures and video's..

and the Kerry Lawyers had people removed who were doing so.,..AND ARRESTED AND CHARGED.

I aM not a lawyer..but i was one of only 2 poll watchers "at large" in my LARGE FLORIDA COUNTY ..and I know we were warned of Cameras and video's being illegaL UNLESS IT WAS DONE BY NEWS MEDIA WITH IDENTIFICATION VISIBLE..AND ANYONE WITH PERMITS TO DO SO.

GROUPS TO CONTACT IN FLORIDA WOULD BE:

ACLU of Florida, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, People for the American Way Foundation and the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation

PLEASE KNOW WHAT THE LAWS ARE AND COMPLY WITH THEM..OR YOU COULD FIND YOURSELF IN JAIL!
