Do you call it the "main stream media" or the "corporate media"
when speaking of CNN, MSNBC, ABC, Washington Post, NY Times, etc.?

I'm starting to lean towards "corporate media" when discussing something I read or heard there with family or friends.

It gets around all that 'liberal media' BS that some people naively believe exists.

As far as I'm concerned, it's pretty much like Enron or Halliburton, only with newspapers and tv stations.

7. With all the streaming they do into the main,
it's the urine media.

None of them will ever put up all sides of a story, unbiased. In one direction, another, or the other, there will always be a bias. Unless it's about a school shooting or something equally universal, where there is only one acceptable (and fortunatly universal) opinion: School shooting incidents are bad. (though to get anything to prevent future shootings seems rather elusive... :( )

9. Corporate media
The only "mainstream media" left in this country is local news (excluding Faux stations), and even there you only get national headlines in the form of soundbytes, not anything I'd call informative.

I'll tell you what I call it when I turn it on
and usually yelled at the screen: "You fucking assholes! You motherfucking scumsucking ratbastard pieces of shit!"

Otherwise, when in polite company, I refer to them as the mainstream corporate-controlled media.

The reporters get their paychecks from "you know who", so you don't bite the hand that feeds you crap.

19. Logical
How is it main stream when it seeks to induce specific views and not reflect the main stream of thought knowing the facts concerning events. It is owned by corporations that seek to conceal certain aspects and often projects a view that best suits the corporate ends.

28. The Media Now ONLY Reflects Corporations
There is nothing "mainstream" about this current media, it is made up entirely of rich people who are far more corporate and conservative than the general public, far more anti-regulation, far more concerned about the stock market, totally unconcerned about the unemployment rate or the sales tax, etc., an extremely rich, small crowd totally cut off from the general population and its concerns. I also think it makes people sound asinine to refer to the "mainstream media," as if they themselves are just too groovy and superior for it, "eclectic," etc. Not a good appearance: that would be the "special" people, as opposed to the "sheeple," no doubt.

Calling them the corporate media, as they are, also reminds people clearly, what the situation/problem is. The public has been gradually cut out of the public forum that the media used to be, now no longer heard at all. There is no variety of opinions heard on the media anymore, no speakers who did not come from some pre-approved corporate list of consultants. You cannot get access to talk shows to give opinions anymore, there is no local coverage of news and other events; they do nothing unless it will make them huge amounts of money, or advance their corporate class's propaganda. There actually is no connection of the population to the commercial media anymore; it only expresses the corporate/business perspective, TO us. There are no regions of the country anymore, or age groups, there is no social/National history to remember and live by; there is ONLY the "eternal present" of constant corporate re-telling of things you once knew otherwise, and constant selling and complete commercialization of not only culture, but nature, and thought itself. Now there is not even an "outside world," the "rest of the world," that used to exist outside of the vulgar, extreme close-up that you can't look past anymore. There is no longer a larger, populated world, where facts are facts, the world has a memory, you do things for moral reasons, and consensus is good--where there is a common good. Now, everything is a narrowed-down one-way-street, where there is only one voice, all propaganda, "spin," hysterical visuals to kill your own thinking, and where it all comes from the single source of concentrated global-corporate ownership.

It is only even barely a "media" anymore. All it is, is the corporate mouthpiece, and the attempt to control the world from a very small number of corporate boardrooms. It is not even part of society.

29. I always refer to it as the "corporate media".
Because that is exactly what it is. If someone I'm talking to doesn't understand it, explain that Viacom owns CBS, GE owns NBC, Disney owns ABC, etc. If they don't understand that, I just give up and figure they're probably Freepers anyway.

31. Mass corporate media, mainstream sounds too much
like they actually care about the people as a whole. Mass corporate media pinpoints their priorities: the worship of the Almighty dollar, and lust for power and prestige just as any of the old courtesans.

If a candidate actually cares about representing the interests of the American People, he/she will be vilified, slandered and trashed.

If a shallow, corrupt, incompetent, malleable, puppet candidate whom they could use to further their own agenda: the elevation of the corporation as super citizen were to run, he/she will be promoted day in and day out even if it's only to report what their favorite color is.
