Bush hopes to 'de-toxify' US politics
1 hour, 56 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush hopes to use his last two years in office to "de-toxify" US politics, his spokesman said at the height of the often bitterly fought campaign ahead of November elections.

In a recently broadcast radio interview, Tony Snow said that "politics has gotten way too personal" and that Americans were growing "bored with it, and fed up."

"If there's anything that we hope we're going to be able to accomplish in the last two years, ... (it) is maybe to de-toxify American politics a little bit," Snow told writers for the conservative Internet journal Powerlineblog.com.

73. bush scared? attempts to offer 'olive branch' of sorts?
I gave this latest news item some thought. Why would bush want to be the DETOXIFIER after 6 years of bashing DEMS? Why would the leader of GOPers, after encouraging slams on DEMS during this election season have a change of heart?

bush had 6 years to the uniter, he's been the decider, and the he's going to jump into a phone booth and turn into the DETOXIFIER? and all the while expressing confidence his GOPers will retain control of congress...

could it be he secretly thinks GOPers will lose control of the House and probably the Senate making him a lamer duck?

by donning the Detoxifier costume does he hope to present a more conciliatory posture, offering the olive branch, cut and running from partisan politics? A set-up for "please don't attack me, I'm trying to be nice" game plan?

p.s. yes, there is a toon in the works regarding the DETOXIFIER

It allowed the critics to say, "Well, here's an administration that's just embarked upon a policy, not looking what the situation is." When, in fact, it's just the opposite.

so to de-toxify U.S. politics he could do one easy thing:

follow in the footsteps of his hero, Richard "I am not a crook" Nixon and RESIGN! But not before Cheney follows in the footsteps of his role model Spiro T. Agnew and resigns too.
