I smacked down a Bushie tonight!!!!
So I'm at work, a part-time security job which is pretty easy. I clear out a gated section of parking at dark for an industrial park which also is used by joggers and hikers for a nearby walking path. It was cold and windy and once the sun went down there was no one in sight except for one car.

I pulled up and shine a light and on the back is a "W in '04" bumper sticker. I wince, and immediatly think of all the bad things I can do, like toss my Maglight through the back window or just call the tow truck right then and there. But I'm a nice guy and know that there had been a function in one of the nearby facilities and this person probably carpooled to dinner with one of the other folks. So rather than piss everyone off like my bosses, the locals and the tow guys, I do my other stuff and wait for them to come back.

About eight PM, in rolls another car. I pull up and talk to them.

Me: Hey, how's it going, that your car?

Passenger: (annoyed) Uh, yeah.

Me: Don't know if you caught that sign out front, but you need to leave the lot at sundown in the future, okay?

Bushie: I don't plan to come here, again, so it's not a big deal.

Me: Uh, huh....it's just we have a lot of folks who use the trails over here.....thought one of them might have gotten lost or hurt out there.

Bushie: (sarcastic) Yeah, well, that's clearly not the case as you can see.

Me: Well, you know, I'm not psychic, but I guess I'm smart enough to figure out you were here for the Caskey Presentation......just letting you know the locals almost towed you, but I got you off the hook. (Half-truth, they would have towed him if I called and asked them to.)

Bushie: (rolling his eyes) Uh, yeah, thanks a lot, you really saved my life, pal.

That did it. Here I am, expecting this guy to apologize for being inconsiderate (too much to expect of a Bushie?), and instead he gives me shit. It's now time to drop the hammer, because I also notice he's being WAAAAY too beligerant with me, too fast.

Me: Sir, have you been drinking tonight?

Bushie: HA!! Screw off, rent-a-cop.

Me: Have you had a drink tonight, sir?

Bushie: This conversation is over.......bye!

Meanwhile the driver looks a tad nervous.....

Driver: Uh....I think I just need to get some stuff out of your car, Brad, why don't I go check.....

Bushie: Fuck it, this guy isn't going to do shit. I had one beer.

Driver: (to me) Um, could we leave his car here......maybe he has HAD a bit too much.

Bushie: BULLSHIT! I'm not drunk and this shithead ain't doing anything about it. I'm leaving in my fucking car!!!

Me: (to driver) You tell me man.....he's not being very rational.

Driver: Yeah, I don't know......if you let us keep the car here, we can pick it up first thing tomorrow.

Bushie: BULLSHIT!!!! I'M GOING THE FUCK HOME IN MY CAR!!!!

Me: (to driver) No problem, I'll let the locals know it's all set until morning.

Bushie: BULLSHIT!!!! I'LL DRIVE HOME NOW!!!!!

Me: Sir, you get in that car, and you'll be pulled over before you get to the main road.

Bushie : TRY ME!!!

It must have been my lucky night, because here comes the RI State Trooper who comes through the area once a night.

Bushie: (seeing the trooper) FUCK!!!

Trooper: (rolls up to me, laughing) Alright, what did you step in now?

I explain the situation. Bushie is muttering, then screams "DAMN IT!"

Trooper: (getting out of cruiser) IS THERE A PROBLEM HERE??

Bushie: (almost in tears) I want to go HOME!!!!

Trooper: License and registration, please.......

Bushie is now crying, and hands over his wallet. Driver get his reg for him. Bushie is now on the ground slumped and crying. I'm trying to stop from doing a happy dance as I watch this freeper go into meltdown and imagine his reaction November 7th.

After running the checks, trooper comes back to me.

Trooper: This guy has no history, and I've got a lot on my plate already tonight, so what do YOU want to do?

Me: Make sure he doesn't kill someone or himself by driving home.

Trooper: Works for me. I'll get his buddy to take him home, then you lock the parking gate so he can't come back later and drive out. I know the cleaning crew usually comes by about 6AM to open up anyway. They have keys.

Driver thanks myself and the trooper while loading Bushie into his car. Trooper points out it was my call or he would have towed the car hours ago. Bushie rolls down window and says he's sorry between catching his breath after sobbing like a wimp.

Myself, I just couldn't resist one last shot.....

Me: Just remember, I'm "the decider" around here.

Best night at this job ever.

14. Well, actually.....
He never got into the car. If he had, as soon as he turned the key he could have been given a sobriety test and then arrested. Sure I could have had him towed for being in after hours, but you don't use your favors with the local constabulary on piddling shit like that, as enjoyable as it could have been.

And he wasn't rich......the car was a shitbox. More than likely he's an entry level computer programmer who sits in a cubicle all day who went to this shindig and tried to network with some bigwigs and it didn't go well.

Just watching him sob and thinking about how pathetic he was for doing so was enough.

a writer of some sort. You spend your days coming up with perfect scenarios. This is excellent work and you are to be congratulated. I burst out laughing at the bit about the puker crying. You should have included something about him wetting himself. But you're the writer, you probably thought that too over the top. This deserves to be reenacted on stage, YouTube...Broadway.
Nice work and thanks for sharing. You made my night.

57. "Lawton Smalls" -- Love that bit!
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 02:16 PM by krkaufman
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_Sedition
"Planet Bush correspondent Lawton Smalls." Occasionally Marc would call 'Lawton Smalls' - the 'Planet Bush Correspondent.' (played by Kent Jones) Typically Marc Maron introduced premises to Lawton, and then Lawton responded with an extreme right-wing Christian response. Lawton would then break down into tears after several premises, and he appeared to accept what Marc Maron had said. However, after a bout of strong coughing, Lawton would return to his original explanations.

Didn't realize that Kent Jones played Lawton, Kent being Rachel Maddow's supporting voice on her show.

God, I miss Lawton Smalls. I wish he'd do it on Rachel's show. I'd pay to hear Lawton Smalls again. Some of my favorite lines from his crying jags...

"Dick Cheney killed my bunny."

"When we played Watergate, the other kids made me be John Dean."

I do not believe so. I always distinguish between the police and the fascist police or 'folice'. Kinda scary if you are carrying a gun and do not understand a distinction.

88. Not a fascist
If he started fucking with the guy and provoking him because of the sticker, he'd be an asshole. But the GrOPer started on him first. The guy certainly had too much to drink or he'd have been happy to take the breath test and prove he was sober. Backing down like that when the cop showed up means he wasn't sure he could pass the test. Felt safe enough to drive home but not safe enough to PROVE it.

The final point, the OP could have still had the car towed. That would have been assholish. He didn't. He stood his ground and did not abuse his position. Can't fault him for any of that.

62. I wasn't there
but that's not how you told the story.

"That did it. Here I am, expecting this guy to apologize for being inconsiderate (too much to expect of a Bushie?), and instead he gives me shit."

Instead of just telling the guy he needs to move his car, you feel the need to tell him the history of the area. Then because he doesn't kiss your a$$ in gratitude, you decide to hassle him more, and also because of his political opinions. I expect an officer of the law to be professional enough to leave his political opinions at home. If cops hassle people because of their political opinions then they are violating the first amendment.

How would you react if you saw your OP of Free Republic, only the sticker said Kerry/Edwards, or, like my old car "really support our troops, don't let them kill or die for oil".

You did not talk about any tipsiness, only a bit of belligerent reaction to being hassled.

66. Ha.....I love it....
"Feel the need to tell the history of the area"

No, I was explaining a legitimate reason why we have to do what we do. Because if someone did fall down or get hurt in the woods, it would be my responsibility to look for them, call it in and get some help out there, etc. You sound like one of those folks (like this fool I ran into) who wanders through life bitching about rules, and not wanting to be "hassled" to have to hear someone "in authority" tell you the sensible reason why. Yeah, I explain why because I encounter people who think everything is "no big deal" (until their car gets broken into and then it's why didn't we inform them that could happen here). I hope they might walk away feeling a little silly or just a bit more enlightened. Guess it doesn't work on everyone. But I try to plant the seed at least so the bottom line is they don't do it again.

There was no reason for him to be belligerent, my tone was friendly and low key at all times. Something was wrong with the guy, either drink or not feeling well and even his friend knew it and seemed to be looking for someone to assist him in convincing him of that. I didn't the toss the "Have you been drinking?" line out there as a canard.....I really got that feeling after our brief exchange and watching him get out the car and stare at me like I was from another planet. If the guy had just said "Oh, my bad, sorry...." to my initial statement to him, I would have ended the conversation right there and most likely would have never suspected something was off with the guy.

You want to go to the extreme of saying I hassled the guy. Okay, I'll go to the extreme that I might have saved his or another's life. I don't really believe that, but if you are going to bash me as piece of shit for what I did, I'll throw it out there.

95. Am I, or he, supposed to care about the legitimate reasons?
Okay fine, I screwed up and left my car in a spot too long. I am moving my car now, okay. But, but, but noooooooo. Some pushy foliceman feels the need to delay me and explain to me what an a$$hole I am for not being aware of all the rules. "Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?"
"Whatever dude, can I go now?"
"No, you cannot go, because I am going to keep badgering you until you show the proper level of remorse and deference, and btw, I am badgering you because I do not like your political views."

Whatever your tone, your belligerence seemed to come first. "That did it" you wrote. He was not properly deferential or courteous, so I decided to go after him.

Also, I am not walking away from your post feeling either silly or enlightened. Why can't you defend what you did without attacking me? 'Nice, troll... you sound like one of those folks (like this fool...' And yes, I started our exchange by attacking you, but you made this post about you. I never made my reply about me, even if you are perhaps correct, that I do violate rules which I think are stupid.

Actually, I am fine with arguing with people in authority, except that they often tend to be bullies with guns quite willing to threaten you if you calmly and logically explain to them why they are full of sh*t. I once had a foliceman basically threaten to assault or arrest me simply because I told him 'if you say so'. This was a cop who felt the need to hassle me simply because I was walking home from the 24 hour grocery store at 2 AM. True, he may have seen me puking a couple blocks before, and apparently thought to himself 'hey, there's a guy who is not feeling well. Why don't I go push him around a little, show him who's boss?'

I did not say anything about you being a piece of sh*t. My phrase was fascist wanna-be. You admit to hassling him, and partly because of his political beliefs. I think that is egregiously unAmerican, and unlike alot of DU I am not going to ebulliently espouse it just because I hate the BFEE. But all you gotta do is say "my bad, sorry" and you can walk away from this argument in one piece, before I pull out my thesaurus and make you cry (usually I do this by making people laugh so hard that tears come out of their eyes, then I declare victory and go home).

98. LOL.....for some reason, you remind me of the guy.....
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 02:17 AM by ProudToBeBlueInRhody
....who one time was in a store I was in while at the mall shopping. Someone spilled a drink outside on the floor, and one of the security guys was waiting for the janitor to come, so in the meantime he was saying "watch your step, watch your step, be careful" over and over. This guy in the store looks at me and the clerk and says "Jesus! Does he have to be so anal??.....SHUT UP ALREADY!!"

He storms out of the store......and promptly does a 7-10 split right on the spilled drink.

Yeah, I laughed. So sue me.

... motivations are open for debate and the final quip was unfortunate/uncalled for. The poster has merely solidified another's prejudice, I expect, with the final, unnecessary retort.

59. Probably...I'll admit it.
I might not have hung around the immediate area to speak to them or seen them pick up the car if I wasn't mildly curious to see the guy and give him a slight rash about parking after hours, although it IS part of our job to remind folks to get out of there at sunset because the place had become a hangout for kids and easy car thefts.

Now if I thought the guy was not in his right mind to drive.....I don't care if he had a Kerry/Edwards sticker.....the cops would have been notified.

71. And if he had a Kerry sticker...
Would you have done the same? Would you have antagonized him and enjoyed watching him cry? Or, would you have treated him exactly the same, thought he was just another belligerent Joe that had too much to drink, and been worried he might be out driving drunk? I *hope* the latter would apply. I really do. I wouldn't like to think someone went driving off into the sunset - possibly drunk - just because they weren't the right political party to taunt, and you cut them slack.

Preferential treatment cuts both ways, and it sucks when you're on the un-preferred receiving end. Just sayin'.

Or so he claims to the press corps. Hence why it is used by people who like to puff out the chest.

In hindsight, I hate the fact I used the line. Too obscure to be funny, makes me sound like a fool (much like the idiot who coined it) to anyone not in on the joke.

102. I can't believe you would behave like that just because he had that sticker
on his car.

"I wince, and immediatly think of all the bad things I can do, like toss my Maglight through the back window or just call the tow truck right then and there. But I'm a nice guy and know that there had been a function in one of the nearby facilities and this person probably carpooled to dinner with one of the other folks. So rather than piss everyone off like my bosses, the locals and the tow guys, I do my other stuff and wait for them to come back."

You need to look for another profession. One in which you can actually behave professionally. The first thing you think of is vandalism? Just because the guy has different political views than you? Sheesh. Good thing you're not a surgeon with a patient that has a tattoo with which you don't agree.

I'm really disappointed at the responses too. What a bunch of yahoos.
