Port Authority in NY is completely shut down due to bomb scare
I am being told by a reliable source that PA is being shut down because a man on a bus claims to have a bomb. The NJ Transit website just says "Police Activity."

7. Port Authority Bus Terminal Partially Closed
Port Authority Bus Terminal Partially Closed
October 23, 2006

A portion of the Port Authority Bus Terminal remains closed this afternoon due to a police investigation.

NY1 was told the terminal was closed after a situation involving a passenger who refused to get off a bus. The Port Authority says the partial shutdown is just a precaution.

The streets outside the terminal are more crowded than usual, as buses are picking up and discharging passengers along 9th Avenue between 37th and 39th Streets.

Buses are not currently being allowed to enter or leave the south wing of the terminal.

8. N.Y. bus terminal evacuated on bomb threat (Reuters)
Edited on Mon Oct-23-06 03:34 PM by IanDB1
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Police evacuated half of New York's largest bus terminal on Monday after an emotionally disturbed man on a bus claimed to have a bomb, officials said.

"There is a man on a bus claiming to have a bomb but there's no one else on the bus," a New York Police Department spokeswoman said.

The Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan serves 200,000 passengers a day, making it what the Port Authority calls the busiest bus terminal in the world.

"Right now the south wing of the terminal is being evacuated as a precaution. Police are dealing with what we believe to be an emotionally distressed individual within the terminal on a bus," said Marc Lavorgna, a spokesman for the Port Authority.
