If you get to heaven, say hi to Jeffrey Dahmer. That's where he is, according to a new book by the pastor who baptized the serial killer in a prison whirlpool tub. snip

Rev. Roy Ratcliff said he believes Dahmer was saved. He's not excusing what Dahmer did, but rather expressing faith that no sin is too great to be forgiven by God. snip

It was in April of 1994, two years after Dahmer was convicted of killing 15 men and boys, that Ratcliff got a surprising call. Dahmer was requesting to be baptized, and the prison chaplain wanted to know if Ratcliff would do it. Queasy at first, Ratcliff agreed. snip

The baptism took place May 10. Ratcliff remembers two coincidences about that day. There was an eerie near-total solar eclipse that darkened the sky when he arrived at the prison. And another serial killer, John Wayne Gacy, was executed in Illinois.

Dressed in a white robe, Dahmer was submerged in the whirlpool. "Welcome to the family of God," Ratcliff said.

2. Question: didn't Dubya do the same thing before he was born again ? And does he feel that all of
his future sins have already been forgiven. Sure does seem like it.

3. In other words, do whatever the hell you want!
Murder, rape, torture, invade sovereign countries, who cares?!? Just get "saved" afterwards and you're on the express train to Jesus' private country club in the sky!

10. Christian doctrine promotes immorality
Serial killer get dunked in hot tub, goes to heaven. On the other hand, Mahatma Gandhi faces eternal torment because he was a heathen. Nice cosmology, huh?

15. Exactly...what a great recruiting tool for the evangelicals...
...all you have to do to be "born again" is to accept "Jesus as your lord and savior". Then no matter what you do with the rest of your life, you've got a free pass, morally speaking. What kind of people really buy that?!

afterlife. I don't know how heavenly that would be for him if they are out for revenge.

8. You see, this is why I can't fathom why Christians
are in favor of the death penalty. You put people in prison, and they can find redemption. You kill 'em, and they are gone. If we believe that all are redeemable, why should we put anyone to death? I say put 'em in prison, keep 'em breathing, let God do the work.

20. I agree plus it's the day by day grind of belief that's tough.
All most anyone can fake it for a day if you know death is certain. Whoever included the story about the thief on the cross in the Bible did not understand human nature very well. "Tomorrow you will be in paradise" proves this to me.

14. Um. Those aren't coincidences, pastor.
Unless you believe God makes the eclipse happen when he feels like it, instead of following the laws of physics. Then I suppose it could be seen as a sign of the sun no longer shining on you. Or something.

26. One of the biggest reasons I gave up on 'believing' is stuff like this.
All you have to do is ask to be 'forgiven' and say the magic words, "I accept Jesus Christ as my personal savior". Can't be that easy. If I were God, I'd certainly expect people to at least try to follow the teachings I revealed to them and if they had led lives of sin, I would something more than requesting 'forgiveness' with their last breaths.

28. well
I would think you would have to show a certain honesty in your asking. If there is a God, Im sure he can discriminate between someone who is just mouthing words and someone who is real. Even with that it seems too little ,too late for my preferences.

29. In my view, religion (at least, American Christianity) has thrown away
its basis, the teachings of Jesus, and replaced it with membership in some type of club. It's all about what religion can do for you....some teach 'God wants you to be wealthy', some teach you to only associate with those who believe exactly like you and to shun everyone else. The nuttiest is that all you have to do is say the magic words and you'll not only get to heaven, but will get there before anybody else in the 'rapture'.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jesus say something about being judged my your acts and not your words?
